I called asking to rent a cello and the man I talked to recommended a 3/4 size cello. I rented it (it was really low quality) and took it to my first cello lesson. My teacher recommended I get a full size cello and so I called this man to tell him that I needed to return it and to ask if I could get some of my money back. He said, "Are you going to take her word over mine?" I said, "Yes, she has a DOCTORATE in cello from Madison." I'm glad my husband took the cello back-I would never want to meet that man! more

I was in need of some hardware for an old percussion kit that I was in the process of restoring. With my little brother and my girlfriend at my side, we were greeted with a fantastic warm atmosphere at the door that led us into the wonderful Becker Music Store. Upon entry we were invited in by a sweet older woman who was more than ready to help me in any way she could. I explained to her my situation and she led me through the shop to see some kits that were assembled in the back in order to help me find the parts to complete my task. Meanwhile, those with me found themselves cozy and at home on a couch in the front room. Walking through the shop I took notice of things and what seemed to be happening when I was not around. Now, although I was only able to catch a glimpse of the business and its operations, from all that I did see I could surely tell this was a splendid store, and I loved every piece of it. They must be doing something right since they've been in business for many years and I'm sure they are nice people. However, I needed a piano book. I called ahead and asked for this specific title. They checked and told me it was in. I had someone cover for me at work and hurried across town---I waited for a long while before someone acknowdeged me and then they looked around the small musty store for a long time. I explained that I had called ahead and the man said that yes he had taken my call. Then he said "well I guess I don't have it" I was not amused. If I had known that ahead of time (reason for my call) I would not have wasted my time. I was trying to give business to a small downtown business but I was not in the least happy with their service and I will not go back. more
