This restaurant has a great looking menu, it smells wonderful, but the meats are dry, and all the food I tasted lacks in flavor. I wouldn't recommend it. more

The best BBQ you can get in the valley. The beef ribs are the best I have ever had, the waitresses make you feel like you are family and the pricesw are great. more

If you want the real thing this B.B.Q. house has it. Ribs to die for and sandwiches on garlic toast can't be beat(my favorites are either turkey or beef/brisket) Resturant is relaxed apmosphere.Walt disney bears on walls & sawdust on floors-old style-yes; but they know what they're doing when it comes to barbeque! Nothin fony here just the real thing-mmm good! more

This restaurant has been around forever. They are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very layed back & casual. My family loves their bar-b-que sauce! It's great for lunch or dinner & is easy access from the freeway. Good deal! more

Its appalling to see & feel that a place like this exists here in S.F.Valley. Our family recently dined here and was treated very rudely as if a Latin family didn't belong in a Missouri style restaurant. Its funny we should have worn our KKK apparel. Had we been wearing these capes we would have rec'vd our dinner before a table, who showed up after we had. and the waitress wouldn't have thrown our plates at us. more

If you've ever had the good graces to have visited down south, you know they do all the right things when it comes to BBQ. And this resteraunt in Mission Hills does the south justice. A great place to take the family and order a mile high plate of food. A good plate to order is the "Combearnation" lunch wich is a BBQ sandwich (beef, pork or turkey) on garlic toast and a beef rib. It's served with a choice of baked beans or coleslaw and costs under 10 dollars! Awesome food that will have you patting your gut, and loosening your belt! Enjoy! PROS: Some plates will have you taking some food home to eat in the morning! CONS: Depending on where you are in the valley, it could be a drive, but worth it more

I am a BBQ finatic.. I could eat Ribs all day long... The Bear Pit is GREAT... I go there and can split a dinner with my daughter and we still have enuf to take home for another meal... They have a variety of items on their menu and the servers there are so nice that they let you make substitutions for no charge. They are jam packed for lunch, dinner and weekends... You have to get there early, they do not take reservations... They have outdoor seating also.... Complete dinners are between $10 - $20. They have a variety of their own BBQ Sauce which is excellent (they sell it in bottles also) They are right off the 118 Freeway and Sepulveda Blvd... Close to Rinaldi.. They have great sandwhiches... I am the kind of person that when I find something on a menu that I like I don't try too many other things... But I have here and have not been disappointed with anything..... Try it, you'll Love It.... Just make sure that you are not wearing a white shirt, they put so much sauce on more

I just accepted a new job in Mission Hills and the first thing my family said to me was "WOW! You'll be right next to the Bear Pit". The restaurant is a long-standing tradition for us. No frills at all-the floor is covered in sawdust- just really great BBQ. Your meal starts with a little bowl of pickles and carrots. Then you have to choose...the best thing here are the sandwiches on garlic toast. They won't let you pick these as a side to your meals (which I could never understand since they are the same price as fried) but you should order the little fried round potatoes. Be sure to take home a few bottles of the awesome BBQ sauce- both varieties. The waitresses can be very rude here, if not just inattentive...try to think of this as part of the experience. more
