I recently went here to have about 13 keys duplicated (as I work in real estate, this has quickly become a barometer for me in rating the aptitude of hardware stores/locksmiths--and believe me, not all are created equal!). They were all regular keys, and one Medecco. The guy had no idea what he was doing...he messed up the regular keys about 6 times and got the Medecco one wrong twice. It took him on average 3-4 minutes per key and almost every key he slapped down on the counter turned out to be a bad cut after a quick visual inspection (the cuts were not even close, so far off that any five year old could tell they did not match up!!). At one point a second employee reluctantly stepped in to attempt the Medecco, after the 1st guy messed it up twice! Even the 2nd guy was slow. I was literally there almost an hour just getting a pocketful of keys made. The icing on the cake? A charge of $1.99-$2.99 per key...the most expensive prices I've ever paid for having regular 5- and 6- pin keys made (at most other stores it's usually around $1.25-2.50 per key). When done, I asked to speak to the owner and suggested he should train his staff a little better. He said something like, ""Well, how do you know they don't work, did you try them?"" I was like, ""Sir, you can clearly see the cuts are way off just by looking at them; I don't need to try them to know they won't work!"" His response was basically to shrug his shoulders and walk away. I quipped something about his lack of interest as an owner, and he basically told me to get out and not come back!! Geez.... What a pathetic excuse for a hardware store. These are the kind of jerks who could only own a store in NYC. In any other town they'd be out of business in a few months after everyone found out how inept the staff is, and how rude and apathetic the owners are. I will never return. DON'T EVER GO HERE!! (P.S. Even after all the recuts, in the end two of the keys still did not work.)
Pros: Good material for a 20/20 hardware store episode
Cons: Inexperienced and incompetence staff, rude / apathetic owners, a true NY experience
