I came across this place by accident while shopping with my GF and her mom. They had never had Mongolian before so I convinved them to try it. Now I am from California where I am used to Asian style Mongolian BBQ and love it. I should have known to turn around once we were seated and given menus. I have never gotten a menu at a mongolian restaraunt unless they served other asian foods. There was little to no asian food listed. But we continued after I saw the nice selection of meats and veggies. But I should have looked further because at the sauce bar I was appalled not to find soy, kung poa, ginger, terryaki, garlic, wine, vinegar, sugar water, sesame oils and other traditional sauces. Instead they had anything but. I think they even had BBQ sauce. Yuck. As I am accustomed to doing I added my sauces to my bowl mixture and proceeded to the cook. Once there I was greated with a curious evil eye. The cook explained to me that you put the sauce on after cooking. I informed him thats not what I am used to and asked why this was not explained when we told the waiter this was our first time hear. He grunted and proceeded to cook and asked me what I was used to. After explaining he whispered something under his breath to the now three employees standing there listening to me explain real mongolian. Once seated the waiter brought us our side dish. Expecting rice, soup or eggrolls I was suprised to get tortillas. HUH? Oh am I gonna hear about this I am thinking. We proceeded to eat our food as I was thinking of what I was about to her once we left. After eating only half our food we left. Once outside the ladies did not disappoint and explained every detail they hated about the whole experience as I hung my head low and tried to explain real Mongolian food again. Needless to say, I will have to find a true Mongolian restaraunt, try it by myself and report back before they will even think about trying it again. This is Tex/Asian food and should not be called Mongolian.
