Simply, Good old fashioned home cooking 12/9/2006

the Bayou Restaurant has a buffet on Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday noon. they feature mostly seafood, but they also have a selection of other things. Charlene and I went tonight, we have been wanting to go. This restaurant gets a 10 for efficiency... a friendly gentleman meets you at the door, and collects $13.00 per adult.... tax, drink, dessert, everything inclusive. No fumbling with coins. Serve yourself... take what you want, but eat what you take. Charlene had some fried shrimp, and a delicious looking piece of fried catfish. She grabbed a couple corn fritters, and gave me one. Thick cut brisket was also on the menu, with a tasty barbecue sauce to pour over, or dip your meat into. I had the brisket, baked beans, cole slaw, and potato salad. second plate was more brisket, sauce, and home cut french fries.... skin on We bypassed the salad bar, and hit the main course for 2 platefuls each. no wait staff... styrofoam plates, plastic ware, and a roll of paper towels are on the table for wiping faces and hands. again, simplicity, and saved labor washing dishes. the salad bar looked like it had a good selection. Also available were corn on the cob, jambalaya, lima beans, and something else in crock pots, over at the end wall. Drinks were your regular soft drinks, and sweet or non sweet iced tea... serve yourself, styrofoam cup, and lids for your "for the road " refill. I noticed the table next to me were enjoying crawfish. I don't eat seafood much, but they looked good, and must have been tasty, as all 4 people had a heaping plate of them. Dessert was apple or cherry cobbler... and ice cream on top, or create a sundae. Four flavors of topping were offered for sundaes. I enjoyed a bowl of apple cobbler, and some ice cream on top. All finished eating?? plates clean?? good.. see those trash cans?? know what you need to do?? tote your plates, bowls, napkins, crawfish shells, etc over to them, and bus your own table... the sign said the busboy was off fishing tonight. again.. saving labor, and time for the restaurant staff. that gives them more money and time to give you quality food, and plenty of it. I hope we go back again... it was my version of good, old fashioned cooking, family style. more
