We arrived late on a Friday night after fighting nearly 4 hours of hateful SoCal traffic between West Hollywood and the SD county line. A couple of relaxing days watching blue herons fly past our balcony, sail boats coming in and out of the marinas, and fireworks shows in the distance each night (from Sea World, I assume) can definitely make up for 4 hours of hell. The Bay Club has a complimentary breakfast each day. In addition to the usual continental fare, they also offer a couple of scrambled egg options, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and either french toast or Belgian waffles. The room accommodations are very comfortable and relaxing. Room Service was prompt and the food still hot (or cold depending on the dish) upon arrival to the room. All the staff here, from the front desk to the dining room to the housekeeping, were friendly, helpful and just all-around great. If you're dining in the hotel, I would recommend the Filet New York with mushrooms and onions, the Shrimp and Scallop Scampi, and the Limoncelli dessert (a tart and light way to end an indulgent dinner). The hotel, situated in Point Loma, is far enough from the heart of the city so you're not listening to honking horns and freeway traffic, yet close enough to downtown that you can have a nice drive to see the maritime museum ships. It's also just a few minutes from the airport...literally 5-10 minutes...but I could count on one hand the number of jets I've heard this weekend. Overall, the hotel is a wonderful option for Angelenos who just need some quiet time. I'd recommend any room on the 2nd floor as they each have their own balcony and great water views. If you choose a 1st floor accommodation, I recommend the marina side of the hotel for similar views. If you don't plan to spend much time in your room, however, the other 1st floor rooms (facing the hotel front and parking) are just fine, as the night traffic is almost nil. Give the Bay Club a try!!!!!
