Bauman Remodeling

We contacted Mike about some renovations to an underused room in our 1870s house in JP. We've always wanted a library and, long story short, now we have one. We were impressed with Mike from the moment we met him and Juan, his associate. Mike and Juan and Chris are craftsmen, in the truest sense of the word. I can't imagine working with anyone else anymore. Mike gave us a fair price for incredibly high quality work. He worked with us on the design of the shelves and was very tolerant of the changes we made as we went along . He gave great advice about what he thought would, and wouldn't work. He asked questions at the right time, always checking to confirm that we were on the same page. He came when he said he would come, he did what he said he would do, he charged what he said he would charge. His staff is conscientious and I can't believe how these guys cleaned up after themselves. Every day! Our new library--the shelves and cabinetry, the replastered and painted walls, the repair to the floor, all of it--is gorgeous. The most frequent response we've gotten to the job is--""it looks like these shelves have always been here."" And that was the goal. The guys he brought in to do the plumbing and electrical work were also fantastic. It all went so well that we gave them a whole new list of projects to work on, which they did cheerfully. These guys are unbelievable, and I really can't recommend them highly enough. I'm already compiling my list for the next go-round. Pros: fair price, creative, reliable, Cons: can't think of one more

I must say that I am stunned at the negative review of Bauman Remodeling. We contacted Mr. Bauman through Angie's list almost two years ago. We wanted him to fix the errors of a previous contractor. What we discovered is that he had higher standards than we did: minor irregularities we couldn't even see were simply not acceptable to Mike. We had been burned a number of times by other contractors, so we knew a good one when he came our way. Everything -- and I mean everything -- was done to perfection. The people who work with Mike (plumber, electrician, plasterers) live up to his standards. We have continued to use Mike for the remodeling of our 100 year old house. After my husband started a do it yourself project and couldn't finish, Mr. Bauman came to the rescue. He was professional, courteous and had excellent workmanship. I would hire him again in a second. Pros: Excellent workmanship more

Mr. Bauman agreed to do the renovation of my basement, including kitchen counter and new bathroom. He did not coordinate the work of his plumber and electrician, causing major rework and expense that could have been avoided. But more importantly he did not follow basic guidelines for framing construction - 16"" on center studs, double studding around window frames, etc. This reveals to me, in my opinion, that he lacks experience to do anything beyond handyman repairs, and he had no business bidding on our basement renovation. He refused to even align a new stud-framed wall to the adjoining stairway, and I had to make this simple modification myself. He withdrew from the contract, leaving me with an undone basement and having paid him $26,000, some of which was supposed to be for completion finish work.
