Magical Night, Charming Accommodation 12/2/2010

A lovely place to stay with a beautiful garden and outdoor area. We wanted to just sleep under the stars (and we did, for a little while at least)! Michael, the innkeeper, was a kind soul who treated us with care and generosity. We were just 4 kids (well...in our 20's and 30's) needing some tender, loving care... a bit lost and without a place to stay in Montauk. He offered us a space and such hospitality at the Bassett Inn. We can't think him enough. We would and will return very soon, our next trip east. Thank you! more

Excellent accommodations! Plan to return again! 7/30/2010

I stayed at the Bassett House in East Hampton July 2010. It was my first stay there. I soon returned two weekends later for another stay I liked it so much. The rooms were clean (not at all "dank"). The location is excellent as was the service and comfort. The owner Michael Bassett is a wonderfully friendly guy, so accommodating, so eager to help with any questions about the area - present and past. I highly recommend this place for your Hamptons stay. Belongings were safe and secure, I slept extremely well. Breakfast made to order. I plan to return again in the future. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Pros: Clean and friendly. Close to town and beach. Cons: None. more

Great Place to Relax 7/23/2009

My friend and I stayed here while we were doing an event in the Hamptons and loved it!! Michael, who does a phenomenal job at running the Basset House, offered us everything we needed from shampoo/conditioner to hair dryers and even delicious muffins and coffee in the morning! We had to leave around 7am, but he was awake, ready for us to have breakfast. He was great and we had a lot of fun staying there. It was so cute and quiet, offset from the road - but we still felt like we were on vacation and away from home. Pros: Quiet, makes you feel like you're at home, yet on vacation! Cons: A little pricey more

Artful and quaint 7/10/2009

This place is wonderful. It is quaint and homely. Inside is interesting artwork with an antique feel. The Inn keeper was most helpful and personable throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend this as a place for a relaxed & welcoming experience. Pros: Pretty outside area & courtyard Cons: None more

Disgusting Disgusting Disgusting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2/17/2009

Worst hotel stay ever!!!!!!!!! Found pubic hair in our bed when we arrived. Rooms were dirty. Toilet didnt work. Ridiculously overpriced. Would rather stay at a youth hostel and sleep on a floor. Dirtiest room ever stayed in. Owner insisted on being prepaid by check. Said didnt take credit cards (that was a lie). We paid for 3 days and checked out after 1 day. Couldnt get money back since he had been paid by check. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. Pros: This hotel was worst experience ever had with hotel Cons: This hotel was worst experience had with hotel more

Bassett House was a great country Bed and Breakfast 7/25/2008

Bassett House was our base for a fantastic three day trip to East Hampton. We got to visit two familys one in Bridgehampton and one in East Hampton. The location of Bassett House couldn't have been any better. We made an afternoon trip to Montauk which was not that far away. Michael started off our day with a country style breakfast along with insight into local history and politics. We felt welcome and given direction to restaurants and locations of events that were taking place. We have found lodging in the Hamptons to be a challenge. The Basset House has met our needs and we have passed this along to our friends. We are looking forward to another visit in August. Pros: Location to town and beach more

Stay here to see the Hamptons!! 7/8/2008

I recently had the opportunity to spend two nights at the Bassett House Inn on the Montauk Highway in East Hampton, New York. This was definitely a delightful visit for my friend from Washing State and myself. We were greeted by the owner, Michael, who made us feel immediately comfortable and right at home. The inn has numerous collectibles that the owner, himself, found over the course of almost thirty years. Such Charm!! Michael was always ready to offer information about places to see and go and how to get there. I would highly recommend the Bassett House Inn in Est Hampton to anyone who wants a comfortable, delightful, down to earth place to stay. I will return again this summer. I also wrote to the Chamber of Commerce about this Inn--/So Very Nice. Pat P. June '08 more

TERRIBLE INN!!! 5/29/2008

We wish we had researched this DUMP owned by creepy "Norman Bates" before wasting our money. Why the chamber of commerce still advertises for him is a disgrace to the Hamptons. Filthy, old, disgusting and such a bizarre innkeeper. NEVER again. Pros: none Cons: read review more

Charming experience 8/2/2007

Staying in mid-summer in this charming, quiet and affordable bed and breakfast with a great host, good service and interesting people. Rooms are spacious and the house is huge. Plenty of space for car parking. more

Welcome to Gomez Adams' House 8/7/2005

While the website was somewhat compelling, the reality did not come close to our expectations. The house is furnished directly from a yard sale, and not necessarily an antique one. What is lacking in character is made up for in clutter -- characterized by a stoplight and a TV straight from the 1950's. In addition, the sofa was indeed floral, but also from several decades ago. Other chairs literally had rips in the. The breakfast part of the B&B turned out to be cyrogenic -- the bagels served at breakfast were still frozen. All in all, this is one of the worst values we have encountered. Pros: close to East Hampton, Can rent Beach passes, Not crowded Cons: Poor value, Musty and dark, Furnishings poor more

An enormous disappointment! 7/25/2005

The Bassett House's description on this site and its own website leads one to expect a lovely country inn/B&B. In reality, it needs some serious TLC: the quality of the room furnishings and linens is poor, and it's superficially clean, but not comfortably so. Our room had very dirty rugs and curtains, dusty potpourri from some forgotten year, was dingy and poorly lit. The public spaces are a cluttered hodgepodge of used furniture that are not at all inviting, and the breakfast offered is of marginal quality. It felt more like we were boarders at the host's home rather than guests at a professionally-managed inn - especially when he was hanging out in the living room (which is clearly "his" room, complete with an old, dusty Nordic Track treadmill next to the couch!) with his shirt open. At $300+ for a room it's grossly overpriced. Almost anything would be better. more
