I could write a long article on all the reasons you should bring your pets here but I am going to keep it short and sweet. If you love your Dog or Cat and live in the Poconos, Barton Heights Animal Hospital is the best by far. Your pets deserve the best don't they? Yes they may be a little higher than other vets but definitely worth it. The staff are true animal lovers and the doctors are first class vets and animal lovers as well. They are also open 24/7 with a vet always in. I love my 2 brussels griffons more than anything and if you love your pets this is the place to take them. When it come to my babies money is no object. The people complaining about price should be ashamed of themselves and the person saying they would not perform surgery without a down payment is lying. They did surgery on one of my dogs and never asked for anything down until I picked her up. They have me, my family and friends as customers for life :) more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/22/2012

I wish I could give Barton Height negative stars! After being clients for over 5 years we brought our sick kitten in on Sunday for an emergency visit and cannot believe the horrid, uncompassionate way we were treated! We were told my cat s stomach was lodged in his chest and he needed surgery in order to save his life. They initially quoted my husband $1900 - $3200 and stated they would not operate without us paying at least 50%. As it was a Sunday evening and our resources were limited we offered to pay what we could (approximately $700.00) with the remainder in the next few days. They refused. They kept the poor baby overnight on oxygen and charged us $460.00 for his care for the night (again, we had to pay upfront). We went home to see what we could do to secure funds for the life saving surgery. We received a call later that evening from the hospital asking for them to do another more detailed x-ray so that they could confirm the diagnosis. We consented. Later we received a call stating that the diagnosis was confirmed, that they could not do the surgery that they would have to call their specialist in and the price was now $3900 and stated that the traveling specialist wouldn t do the surgery without payment in full upfront! We asked to speak with the specialist and were told it s not negotiable . We eventually did speak with the specialist who told us the payment up front was not his policy, but that of Barton Heights. Barton Heights refused to work out payment with us so we waited until morning to see if we could pool resources to save our kitten. Well, next morning we received a call from Barton Heights with a new bill of $900.00 for our baby s overnight care. My husband balked and refused to pay as we had already been told the bill would be $460.00 which we had paid. He was put on hold and told there were some discrepancies found and that the bill was $500 and if we didn't pay it they would put us in collections! Again my husband balked and was put on hold again for some time. When they came back on the line they informed my husband that the kitten had just died so we owed them $200+ dollars for an x-ray and cremation. Bottom line, this practice does not care about the animals that they purport to help, but only look to increase their bottom line. We have pulled our records and will utilize another, more compassionate vet for our other animals. Thank you Barton Heights for devastating my children and teaching them that there are people out there who have no compassion and are only out for a buck! more

Best animal care in the Poconos! 5/16/2012

Awful Experience 3/6/2012

This place is terrible. After my experience with Barton Heights, I would never trust them with a beloved pet. They are completely overpriced, cold and unfeeling, and the doctor that I dealt with is incompetent and misdiagnosed my cat twice and apparently doesn't know how to read a sonogram. My cat was vomiting excessively and she was having seizures. First, the doctor misdiagnosed her with FIV, and I left devastated because he never bothered to tell me that a previous FIV vaccination would always indicate a false positive result. After many visits there and one wrong diagnosis after another, the doctor did a sonogram and told me that he didn't find anything in her abdomen. He told me that he did a very thorough and extensive ultrasound and that there was no evidence of cancer and that I should have an MRI of the brain done to check for a possible tumor. Five days later, I took her to a different vet that preformed the same sonogram, and, lo and behold, she has intestional lymphoma that had spread to her liver. I'm not a doctor, but I would find it highly unlikely that the cancer would not show up on the previous sonogram.  Her prognosis is still bleak, but I wouldn't have spent $2000 on the MRI if the ""doctor"" had been competent enough to find the cancer with his ""high tech equipment"" in the first place, not to mention the additional $1600 that I threw away by going to this practice in the first place. Not to mention that when I called to speak to the ""doctor"" about this, he became irate, told me that I had two minutes, and then hung up on me. The practice brags about their ""state of the art equipment,"" then Dr. Sean Ott told me that their equipment is outdated and that is why he read the sonogram wrong, so which is it?  Apparently, your money is not going to fund the ""state of the art equipment."" Rather, it is funding their annual staff Christmas party at the Stroudsmoor Inn.  You can see the photos on their Facebook page, if they don't choose to take it down now by virtue of my review. Buyer beware; this is the worst vet that I have ever been to. more

All about money 11/2/2011

while this place is clean, i'll give them that it's a complete rip off otherwise! made an appt for our dog, whose right side of his face and eye was swollen shut out of the blue overnight. he had no prior signs of anything wrong with him the night before. we get there, the dr. barely opens our dogs mouth and says it's an abscess and they need to anesthetize him and do xrays and ""explore"" his teeth, cost=$1,300, needless to say we left. made an appt for later in the day at Blakeslee vet and as soon as the dr. walked in the room he said ""something bit him"", examined him and concluded it's a spider bite! $70 total for an office visit, steroid shot and take home meds, that's a huge difference from the $1,300 that Barton Heights quoted and wrong diagnosis to boot! please don't go to this place, go anywhere but Barton Heights! more
