Best

There is a reason these burgers are considered some of the best in the Boston area. The taste is superb and the variety of toppings offers something for everyone. The onion ring...

This place needs to get with the program and start accepting credit and debit cards. The prices for the burgers is entirely extravagant even though they are good. Our service was ...

Interesting 7/24/2006

This place is an interesting restaurant. It is very crowded and there is a long table in the center that multiple party’s share. There is no bathroom. All of the burgers on the menu are named after famous people, and all of the sandwiches after schools. There are a lot of different choices, and you can have any hamburger substituted with a turkey or veggie burger. The food was great and came very quickly. more

Carnivore's Dream on a Bun 5/18/2006

Mr. Bartley's has built a reputation on its burgers, and indeed you can smell 'em half a block away. This is not a great place for vegetarians unless they want the plate of three sides (i.e. pasta salad, fruit salad, etc). The burgers are very good though, large and cooked to order and given fun names based on current events. The menu is otherwise huge, and they have old timey drinks like raspberry lime rickeys and egg creams. The place gets crazy crowded but the line moves pretty fast. Be prepared to rub elbows with your neighbors. Where's Mrs. Bartley? She used to be on the sign back when.... more

Bartley's Burger 4/24/2006

Bartley's Burgers have been shown in research to forestall decisions by those contemplating a bout with to vegetarianism. Come at the height of lunch, and you will wait outside with the rest of the herd. You will want to squeeze isndie to read the menu -- it surrounds you on two sides with huge scale chalk letters. Every burger is dubbed with a celebrity name, and it seems people I go with always choose that way as by the ingredients -- always too numerous to list or even help one make one's decision. Don't overlook the lemonade. It is the perfect implement to the over-sdized Bartley's' chow down. more

Overly touristy 4/16/2006

Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage can be good;if you can climb through the horde of tourists to find a seat. The menu contains pages and pages full of different kinds of burgers with tourist friendly catchy names. They also serve the traditional new england style fountain drinks such as the lime rickey and egg cream. In my opinion, the food here is not worth the effort-with the exception of the sweet potato fries. Caveat-there is no public restroom here. more

Big Fat Juicy Burgers 4/15/2006

What's better than a burger from Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage? Not much. It has the feel of dive diner and the authentic menu to boot. It's basically a huge list of creative burgers and assorted foods that are named after celebrities. The burgers have pithy comments and can be politically charged, so you really are what you order here. The most amazing thing to me is that a vegetarian can come away full with the good selection of vegetarian options. more

Pretty good, pretty fast 4/15/2006

Gets pretty crowded since it's right next to Harvard. The service is fast though since they need your seats. Definitely not a place to linger over the food. Kind of a "greasy spoon" type of restaurant. The menu's pretty extensive. They even have veggie burgers =) The food's filling, and it's reasonably priced. Can get quite loud though. more

FANTASTIC 4/3/2006

I love burgers, greasy juicy burgers. this place is cute and has lots of interesting stuff all around, and the food is great. it's just an old fashioned burger joint that really is still an old fashioned burger joint. they also have some interesting burgers on the menu. plus they have other things for people who don't want to eat a burger. one of my favorite places to eat when I go back to Cambridge to visit. more

Great simple food, fun atmosphere 2/13/2006

If you love burgers, this place is it! Their burgers are hand-formed and fresh. They make a mean frappe, always nice.Be prepared to sit at tiny tables, or at one big long table with strangers next to or across from you. The place isn't fancy, all the condiments and napkins are on the tables. You go to Bartley's for GREAT burgers and drinks. It's that simple. I would recommend this to people who feel comfortable eating in simple places. This place is so laid-back, I'd imagine reservations are unheard of. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a seat. And oh yeah, there are NO bathrooms... more

Wonderful burgers 2/12/2006

This is about as close as you get to a perfect burger. The place is crammed, people share tables, and the waitstaff is curt but very competent. They offer something like 100 different types of hamburgers. The hamburgers are more like meatballs than hamburgers, but in my eyes, that's a good thing. Burger usually comes with cole slaw and chips for around $5. Only bad thing about this place is that it's closed on Sundays, but that will slow your weight gain from the great food...LOL! more

Best Milkshake Ever 1/13/2006

Boston's best burger is arguably found at Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage in Cambridge. Here they put a heavy emphasis on topping varieties and choices of meat (or veggie) ground up into a patty. Few things on the menu top $15 which makes this establishment an excellent bargain. The milkshakes here are called frappes. The best one on the list by far was inspired by Elvis Presely and contains vanilla ice cream, peanut butter, peanutbutter cups, and bananas. If you're not watching your weight, I highly recommend giving it a try. more

busy place 9/25/2005

Since this restaurant is located in Harvard Square, it is always packed with local students and young people. If you sit inside, you sit on a long bench with other people or at a tiny table. The burgers are pretty good, obviously freshly made and the frappes are really good too. The prices I feel are a little high for just a burger, but you really go there for the atmosphere. more

Famous Gourmet Burgers! 9/2/2005

I am not a burger fan myself so I don't know how to appreciate these things. However, I must say that the burgers here are pretty good. The reason I would recommend this place is because of its name more than its food. Many famous people have dined here so they have burgers named after them. It's a fun eating experience. more

Good Burgers 8/22/2005

Bartley's is perfect to grab a burger. The restaurant always feels a little cramped, but if you go at the right time, it can be really pleasant. Not a great place for a big group, but perfect for a few friends grabbing a casual meal together. I would recommend going at lunchtime. I also would recommend trying as many different burgers as you can; they all sound so delicious! more
