loved the apt: great location, in-unit w/d (a plus), was affordable, spacious & clean. i rented from other management companies on campus, and had such a great experience with barr. never had any serious maintenance issues (just an overractive fire alarm), they were responsive, and had a very friendly/helpful office staff. great experience overall. more

The place I had was pretty nice and a good price. I did not stay long enough to see if the rent increased. The parking lot is sufficient, but the spots are marked a little small, often a tight fit. I seldom heard the neighbors, except the ones that were trying to annoy me. The management seemed pretty good to me. I only needed something from them once and they took care of it right away. I never had any other problems, the place seemed rather well maintained. Overall I would reccomend it for college students that want to be far enough away from campus to avoid the noise there. more

The maintenance staff of Barr Real Estate is by far one of the best I have come across. They are always prompt and willing to help with any situation you might have. Last year I was locked out of my apartment because I twisted my key the wrong way and it jammed. Emergency maintenance was prompt and very helpful in replacing my lock. I was very satisfied with the response time because it was cold out and I didn't have to wait long at all to get into my unit. Another time my AC unit was broken because the filter had frozen to the coils because I had it on all the time. Maintenance was quick to respond and installed a new unit that worked great. In the winter there were electricians working in my apartment and I was notified a week in advance. When they were in my crawl space they found that my water heater was leaking. Although the leak was very minor, BARR was quick to replace the water heater to avoid any water damage to the wood frame and base board. When the Plumbing contractor who replaced the water heater forgot the light the pilot lights a maintenance worker arrived quickly and showed me where all the pilot lights were and lit them. During winter break my stupid neighbor downstairs turned his heat all the way off and the pipes froze. Once again Barr maintenance was quick to respond and came with heat guns to thaw out my pipes and fixed the damage that had happen to my neighbors apartment because he turned his heat off. As a side note Barr did send out a notice that said to leave the heat on at a low setting to avoid pipes freezing. Guess my neighbor didn't learn how to read prior to coming to a university. Also during the frozen pipe incident they came with insulation strips and weather sealed my door because all doors were replaced over break and the contractor installed the door with a gap that was too large. The insulation was temporary and the door was later fixed. more

Heater fixed two days ago, stall fixed in the morning, carpet cleaned and new bed arrived in the afternoon. Good job BARR maintenance! Very satisfied. more

Maintenance was definitely the best part. They came to "fix a drawer" one day in our bathroom and ended up ripping out our cabinets, sink, and mirrors. They replaced it all and the bathroom looks much better now, even much cleaner. The guys always came by and fixed things very quickly after we requested it, and I have experienced the same service at my new apartment in Southwest Champaign. They have also always been very polite. more

I've lived here for about 4 years. Rent has only gone up once. My 1 bedroom is pretty spacious, with a balcony. Not much of a view, though. Appliances are a little dated, but functional. Seems like a safe place, never had any issues. Neighbors are friendly. more

Just moved into my apartment. Despite the other reviews on here, my apartment was exceptionally cleaned. Everything so far has worked as it should. Even after moving in, a maintenance worker asked me if everything was okay with the new apartment and if there was something he could do. I have lived with Barr in the past and I also had a pleasant experience. After living in Campaign-Urbana on/near campus with many companies. Barr's service is much better than most. more

I have lived in Fairlawn Village (one-bedroom duplex) for a year and a half. The maintenaince problems I´ve had here have been promptly fixed by courteous staff. more

Also, the place really did get an upgrade. It looks gorgeous now! They even landscaped the apartment, and I am proud to say I live in the complex- it looks so vogue. The maintenance staff has been EXCELLENT throughout my stay, fixing things as minor as a missing tile on my bathroom wall, giving me nice new wooden floors (so much easier to clean, too!), and even coming over after hours to give me a temporary heater when I got home at 6pm to discover my heat was faulty, and made sure that a repair man would come ASAP, which turned out to be right that night- wonderful! The staff at Barr Real Estate Office in Champaign are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Any time I have a request or a suggestion, it is heard. These people are really wonderful and the company has made the best out of a not-so-convenient situation with our apartment renovation. I feel that my voice has been heard in my requests- once the lights on the outside of the building and the entryway were out. I told Mr. Barr, and he got the construction workers to fix it that day. I haven't even mentioned the apartment yet, but here it is: I have a beautiful 2 bedroom townhouse, fully furnished, with plenty of space. It has a nice roomy family room, an east-facing kitchen that really is great to enjoy breakfast and wake up in during the early hours before school, and two bedrooms with vaulted ceilings. The bathroom is roomy and with enough space for a bathroom-hog like me to still be quite comfortable. And that second bedroom is perfect as a guest bedroom and study room. Despite the rocky beginning, I absolutely love this place, and will be living here all four years of my Veterinary career. Thinking of living in a Barr apartment' I would absolutely say yes. more
