For a while my family and I used Dr. Barnes for our veterinarian. After several incidents, however, we decided to stop using that particular vet. When our rabbit got sick, he knew what was wrong, but he told us a rabbit wasn’t worth treating; we took the rabbit to another vet, who DID treat her, and the rabbit is alive to this day – very old, but very healthy. Also, I almost adopted a cat who was very sick; when I took her in for her initial checkup, Dr. Barnes also knew what was wrong with her, but advised me to take her back, as it wasn’t worth treating her since she wasn’t a long-time, beloved pet. The cat died the following weekend, back at the shelter from where I’d originally gotten her. Although I can understand Dr. Barnes’ reasoning, I also think that on multiple occasions he displayed a certain degree of heartlessness that is not befitting a person who has chosen to help sick animals as his career.
