Great Beers, average food 9/22/2009

Great beers brewed onsite and a good selection of 'visiting' beers. I went during Lent this year because I was told that their fish and chips were excellent (and I forgot to make reservations at another restaurant). We were in a party of 4 and got seated right away. We all ordered the fish and chips and a sampler of their brews. The beer came out first and was excellent. The food came next. While not bad, there was nothing really remarkable about it. Kindof like any traditional pub's fish and chips. I have nothing bad to say about Barley Island. It is a semi-regular haunt of mine now. Pros: Great beer, good service Cons: Nothing really negative, just average everything more

Great Place 7/24/2009

If you are expecting a cookie cutter "Brew Pub" like The Ram or Granite City go to one of those. If you want real beer and food go to Barley Island. Haven't had a bad experience there yet. more

I keep wishing they were better ... 8/27/2007

I've been here several times over the last 3 years, keep hoping that it will get better. The burgers and fish & chips are ok, but everything else we've tried has been dismal. \r \r The service, although friendly enough, is always slow. Several times orders come out piece-meal ... we'll get one or two entrees for the table, the others may take another few minutes. Not unusual for things to be wrong. Twice we've ordered sandwiches that did not come with fries, fries were brought with them, then they charged us for the fries we didn't order in the first place. We also bought the promotional coupons, having been reassured that there was a new menu and new management. So we tried one last time and went with some neighbors. I only saw 2 new items on the menu, one of which wasn't available, and several other old items weren't available either. Once again the service was slow, but we were out with friends and trying to enjoy ourselves, so we kept the beer orders going. 10 minutes after more

this place is fantastic! 5/19/2007

My family recently celebrated my parents 30th wedding anniversary and since we went all out on their 25th just 5 years ago we decided to something a little low key this time. We made reservations at Barley Island in Noblesville, In.First, it is snuggled into quaint downtown Noblesville and the inside is so charming. Our server could not have been more pleasant, showing us attention and meeting our needs without being bothersome. Our food was unbelievable! I had a stuffed chicken breast with mushrooms and fresh spinach and my sister had a black and blue pasta dish with steak. We ended up just splitting our meals because they were both so delicious. Everyone at our table kept saying how fantastic the food was. My parents were so pleased and we spent a small fraction compared to what we spent on their 25th anniversary celebration. My boyfriend and I recently went for dinner on a weekend night and it was equally amazing as the first time we went with the family. However, this time we hit th more

Service was terrible 9/14/2005

My husband and I had purchased a promotional ticket from a door-to-door salesperson for this restaraunt because we were planning on eating there anyways. We had my mom and her boyfriend meet us there for dinner and to our displeasure the service was TERRIBLE!!! There were MAYBE 4 other tables in the whole restaraunt that people were seated at. It took well over an HOUR to get our food (all my mom and I ordered was a club sandwhich). When our order FINALLY arrived, it was wrong. We asked to speak to a manager to see what was going on...they were obviously NOT busy. He claimed they were and that the chef was new....yada, yada, yada. After going around and around with him about how they should have better service especially if they are selling promotional tickets, he wasn't going to do a thing for us and our displeasure. He was actually getting a little angry with us. I was sure to tell him that I would be telling eveyrone I know about how terrible my experience was. My husband more

Worth the Drive 1/22/2004

Barley Island is about 20 minutes from downtown Indianapolis. Inside you are greeted by a fairly sparse seating area, but toward the back things get a little warmer, with booths and frosted glass all in an Irish theme. I especially liked the hanging lights that showed leprechauns holding mugs of ale. They also have an adjoining game room with pool and classic arcade games. The beer selection is fairly good. They have 6 beers available, including a seasonal or 2, and a cask offering. The have a sampler and growlers available as well. The beers range from standard brewpub stuff to more unique offerings like a 60 Shilling Scottish Ale. The service here was decent. The food was a combination of Irish pub grub, pizza and sandwhiches. All in all this is definitely a recommended stop if you are in the Indianapolis area. Pros: Good beers more

  • The term Barley Island is the 17th century name for a room in the alehouse in which beer was consumed. True to its name, Barley Island Brewing Company produces fine ales and lagers, which are served in its Old World decor restaurant and pub. Barley Island has an emphasis on freshness -- the beer is made from scratch as well as many other of the food items. The on-premise produced ales and lagers are utilized in the menu sauces and marinades wherever possible.
