We discovered Dr. Barkopoulos a few months ago after a bad experience with another specialist. Other doctors referred us to him, because they consider him superb. It's obvious that he's highly trained. He's also very responsive to emergency (after-hours) calls to his cell phone. There may be delays in the waiting room. But IMHO, he's worth waiting for. I went to see Dr Barkopoulos 6 times and EVERY single time, his office called to reschedule. The last time the office called to reschedule me AGAIN, I said that the next time they did it they would have to give me 48 hours notice, as I am required to give them. When I did eventually get in to see him, I would have to wait at least half an hour because he was behind schedule. I understand that emergencies happen, however, I do not believe that every single time I saw him over several months that an emergency occurred. Rather, I think that he and his staff are not able to properly manage his schedule. As a matter of fact, the very first time I called and booked a first morning appt, his office asst said, ""Oh just so you know, he never arrives to the office on time in the morning, so it will probably be later than the time I give you."" That should have been a big red flag. I do believe he is an excellent doctor, however, I can't deal anymore with the scheduling issues and am going to find a new dr, which is a shame, really. I went to him for meds, he never remembered me, and the wait was once up to 2 hours. He won't give refills for zoloft and cytomel (these are not narcotics, or sedatives) --he claims this is because the pharmacy will make an error. And that would not have been a problem - but the refill request was never faxed back to pharmacy in a timely manner, -- every month it would take me 7 or 8 phone calls to get him to contact the pharmacy and days of waiting. So I became ill from not taking medication (because I couldn't get it), -- and he didn't seem to care, and this happened every month, like clockwork. Very frustrating! Seeing him was giving me more anxiety than my problems. The entire session I would plead with him to please straighten this out, and each time he would claim that I never told him about this issue before, Oy Vey. Finally went to a different doctor who gladly writes me refills. I come from a family of psychiatrists, and they never heard of one not prescribing refills for these meds. He also is not someone to go to for talk therapy, he doesn't listen or remember!!! Cons: Does not listen, prescription error, very long wait more

I found this doctor through the list of providers through my insurance. The wait was over 30 min, but that's okay - - i know medical offices are like this. I came to this doctor explaining some of my problems. In our 45 min discussion, I tried to tel him everything; he would jot down notes as I spoke. I told him that one of my problems was lack of libido (at only 20 years old, aaah). To combat my anxiety, he decided to put me on a medication that actaully made one's drive WORSE. Thank god I did my research. more

I was already seeing a psychologist, still having problems, went to Dr. Barkopoulos to get set up with meds. He's very patient, good listener, good dialogue and knows his stuff. Did a thorough exam of my mental state before recommending any meds... caught stuff that I didn't realise was going on with my head since the anxiety was overwhelming everything else. more
