Sharon, Connecticut is not a terribly exciting place to live, but at least it has a thrift store. The Bargain Barn is probably my least favorite thrift store out of all the ones I frequent in NYC and CT, but it's what there is to do there, so I go. It's pretty pretentious for a thrift store--anything remotely not crappy is put into the "Posh Room," which requires you to get a special slip for your items before you pay for them in the main room. Sounds like a huge waste of time and paper to me. There is also a sign near the "Vintage View" rack with a random article about vintage prices in NYC and a declaration that you are getting a great deal. I always found that to be unnecessary and pretentious as well. Additionally, I have had problems with the staff members being rude. I don't usually find things to buy here, although I have scored some fun stuff from the 25 cent table and found a couple of Ann Taylor pieces in the Posh Room that I can wear to work. All in all, it's worth dealing with the annoying stuff because 1. it's something to do and 2. it's for a good cause.
