Why pay cover to get in to a bar 4/9/2009

If you want pay cover go to a club. The place is very small, by the time you are in not much is happening. Its your money spend it where you want. more

Wish I wore a costume! 11/3/2008

Came after work on a friday night (which happened to be halloween). The combination of dj dirty's ecclectic set (dude goes allover the place) and everyone's costumes really made an impression on me. It's MY NEW FAVORITE SPOT! The place is rather small and dancing room gets a little tight , so I would suggest getting there early (there's no cover at a certain time), I had such a good time, everyone looked so good in their costumes that I wish I took the time to get one ready. Oh well, maybe next time. Pros: Good vibe, relaxed atmosphere. Cons: long lines, place gets packed more

Small place, great vibe 7/19/2008

Barcopa is a surprisingly small place that manages to pack in a full house during weekends. It's a safe bet to get there early because you could wait in line for a while. The drinks are stiff but you'll pay santa monica prices, the dj's usually play an eclectic set of genres but the vibe is what will keep you there. more

You get what you pay for 3/6/2008

My girls and I went bar hopping on main street last weekend, stopped by Main on Main and didn't fail to dissapoint- "Lame on Main" as my friends and I chanted leaving the place had all the elements of its previous incarnation, sleazy guys, pathetic top 40 music and ugly people. Circle bar was just as whack. Plan "B" up the street ( as in B for Barcopa), never dissapoints, the music is great, the service is friendly, drinks are stiff, and the people are cooler. Some of my girls got eeked over the cover charge but I don't mind paying for the quality. This place is a much better place to party at than the rest of the bars on the street. Cheers! more

Warning: Specialty Drinks are Dangerous! 3/6/2008

I love going to Barcopa, it's my favorite place on Main St. Although it has a cover charge for the weekends, I would rather pay to get into a bar that has quality music, drinks and people. Places like the Circle Bar or Main on Main don't have the same quality of people, drinks, service or vibe that Barcopa has. Saturday nights are really fun and great for having birthday parties. I've had my birthday there for 4 years and the staff has always taken really good care of us. I'm glad that they finally expanded the women's restroom- no more long waits! And their specialty are soooo good, can't have just one! more

Deep, dark and friendly 3/6/2008

This place is known for it's good music and vibe. The drinks are priced and made well complemented by a friendly and attractive looking staff. Hard to see at first but a good time, my friends and I always have our birthdays there and the specialty drinks are to die for. Pros: Good times Cons: gets packed more

Great for a birthday! 2/12/2008

On Friday we celebrated my friends birthday and had a really good time. I reserved an area at no charge. It sat around 10-12 people comfortably. The staff was wonderful and our waitress Angel took care of us. The music and vibe all night was really good. I would definitely recommend Barcopas for a Friday night or birthday get together. Not expensive at all, with great service. Thanks again. Pros: Ambience, good music, mixed crowd more

DOPE!- This is the only spot on the westside that I would go to. 11/10/2007

Although this spot on Main street is small and relatively hard to find, Barcopa on Saturday nights is the only place I would go to. As a dj/producer and music lover, I find Barcopa on saturday nights to be the only place where the dj's don't sell out. Dirty and his special guests play real, soulful, feel good music. NOTHING BUT CLASSICS! I love that Dirty stays off that pop radio nonsense and plays more of "the real ish" (aka- golden age hip hop, funk, soul, eighties and electro). This place is different. If you want to hear music that you hear on the radio every ten minutes and your music collection consists of britney spears soulja boy, akon, and whatever other whack ish that's out there , then this place isn't the place for you. The music is much more sophisticated and for a more mature conscious adventurous crowd. Bring a towel and get ready to sweat because saturdays are one hell of a night! Dirty and friends rule! Drinks at Barcopa are awesome! The prices are reasonable and they claim to have the best mojitos in Santa Monica (I have to say that I agree), but their other specialty drinks are good. On a night where you and your friends are out bar hopping on main st. I can almost guarantee that "Copa" will be your last stop. The music and the vibe is just too good. Just don't forget that there's a cover at the door. Pros: Top shelf rare ish, awesome vibe, reasonable prices Cons: the place gets packed more

my pick on main street 10/25/2007

Barcopa is my pick on Main Street in SM. always a great DJ, a good specialty cocktail list, and good vibe all around. The only drawback is that the place is really small, so probably not a good place if you're claustrophobic. The spot is really chill, so there's no need to get dressed up. you're only going to leave sweaty anyway. more

It was my 1st time... 10/7/2007

Being that it was my first time there, it sucked. I went on saturday night and the dj sucked. First off it was too small of a place, the dance floor was too small. People were always stepping on eachother's because in order to get to the bathroom you had to walk across the small dance floor. The music was sooo low that you could hardly hear it. The dj did not play any good songs. I will never go back to that place and i would not recommend it. Cons: music more

Hot spot 8/30/2007

I aked people on the street how to find the place. The people outside sent me all over a 4-5 block radius, walking back and forth. It was getting to be a hassle, and I really hadn't planned on being there long anyway. I was supposed to meet someone there which is why I even bothered to continue looking for it. I had read a review that said you don't know it is there until you hear the bass playing as you pass it. So that's how I found it. I walked slowly up the street until I heard some music coming from somewhere, and there it was... hidden in plain sight. By the time I got there, I was livid. I didn't want to stay. As soon as I went inside, it felt like time stopped. The place was tiny, but had enough people to where I didn't feel like I was in the hotel bar in the Shining. The first person you see is the bouncer ... whom I wanted to bounce back to my place as a souveneir... he was hot... and very nice. He kept the rif-raff out and to my delight, let me in. I squealed, but he didn't hear me over the music. The music was setting a very comfortable atmosphere, inviting me in. I couldn't put my finger on any particular name to describe the type of music other than it was somehow aligning itself with my aura, and melting the stress. Suddenly it was okay to be there.. I guess I would stay for a little while. I ordered my favorite drink, which is a surprise every time I order it. It seems like so many bartenders just can't blend it to taste good. It was one of the tastiest I've had in a long time. Conversation revealed the bartender was very knowledgeable. I was hooked. I got comfortable. The crowd inside was very friendly, and even entertaining to watch. Everyone was in their own world, but not excluding me. There was no cattiness or attitude ANYWHERE. Saw my friend briefly... When I realized I had to go, I was truly sad. Eventually I left, but the place stayed on my mind for days afterward. I'm definitely going back. Pros: Fantastic vibe. Cons: Blink and you miss it. more

FUNK AND SOUL Tuesdays- dopeness....without the scenesters. 6/12/2007

I normally see a long line of people during the weekends, but Tuesday nites at Barcopa are a lot different - The bar isn't packed, the music is not loud, and it won't take a half an hour to walk through a crowd of people to get to the restroom. This spot on tuesday is very casual and low-key. It makes for a nice vibey evening for couples who want to lounge around and have a couple of drinks while up and coming djs practice their kung fu on the ones and twos. Nobody likes to sit in an empty bar by themselves but the music is just too good to pass up on. The dj made a point that all he was going to play was the stuff he liked and "ALL YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR IS FUNK AND SOUL." That made me happy, I'm so tired of that top 40 radio nonsense! I wouldn't be able to tell you what songs or artists he played, the stuff he had was rare and old...which is kind of weird because he uses a laptop to play music. The vibe is awesome, but don't expect to be walking into some raging party, because that's something you're going to have to bring on your own. Good drinks, friendly staff, loungy, casual atmosphere, excellent tunes. NO COVER. more

SULTRY, HIP BAR! 5/9/2007

Went to Copa last weekend with a few girlfriends. We were immediately impressed with the friendly bouncers who had no attitude. Upon walking in we just felt a great vibe. The crowd was hot and having a good time. The music was great, couldnt help but dance. The entire ambiance was sultry cool. Its not a large space but it was comfortable. The bartenders were fun and definately knew what they were doing. Overall we had a great time and we will definately be going back! Pros: Staff, music, atmosphere Cons: small space more

Get ready to feel like a sardine in a can, WAAAAAY too crowded, rude bouncers 4/27/2007

I have been to barcopa many times before with mostly pleasant experiences, but Friday April 27 was the absolute WORST night out I've ever had!!! They allowed way too many people in so that it was difficult to move and everyone was pushing for space; it was definitely past capacity. The bouncer inside was very rude when I asked if they were going to continue to pack more people in, and he tried to fight multiple customers. The usually wonderful music was weak. Don't waste your money here, it's become to popular with the obnoxious West LA crowd. Pros: Free parking in rear! Cons: Crappy music, nasty drinks, overcrowded, rude bouncers. more

Small venue, great beats, cool people! 10/22/2006

Although this place is pretty darn small, it manages to satisfy across the board. The bouncers are attitude-free. The bar serves the full gamut of (pricey) drinks. They have a booth in the front corner and a few couches in the back corners for chilling. The DJs always play an excellent mix, incorporating new hip hop, dancehall/dub/reggae, a little pop and some old-school. I've heard Sean Paul, Madonna, Dre and Prince in a single evening. It might sound cheesy at first, but after downing 4 cocktails and being surrounded by a veritable Whitman's Sampler of ethnicities, s'all good. If you get there late, the dance floor will most likely be [over-] crowded. Good luck finding a parking space, too. Pros: A great mix of people and music! Cons: Dance floor gets too crowded, parking is a pain more

GREEEEEEEEAT MUSIC! 5/27/2006

I bascially danced all night long, seriously I did not sit once. They played reggae, old school hip hop, hip hop, r & b, and there were times when we were all singing out loud. It was amazing. It is a bit small, but surprisingly, I had room to dance (and trust I need a lot of space). Check it out. OH, I was a bit disappointed in the drink though, they seemed a bit watered down and the prices were different at different times--just a heads up. Pros: MUSIC, people, vibe Cons: watered down drinks more

Hot, crowded and not worth the wait 5/12/2006

I went here with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night and the line was pretty long, but the wait was much longer. I guess the place was so packed that no one could get in until someone came out. After an hour or so, we finally all got in (and had to pay cover). Once inside, I was not impressed, it was so hot and crowded and dark - i could barely even swee where I was going! This place is tiny - so beware. The drinks were decent and the price was reasonable. The only good thing about this place was the music. The dj was good and played a good mix of hip hop and old school - too bad it was too packed to even dance. Pros: music, drinks Cons: crowded and hot, tiny space, long wait more

Worth the while... 1/13/2006

This place is great to go if your with a crowd, or with another friend or two. The owner truly sticks with a certain motif; hole in the wall and burgundy lighting. If your looking for great music and a cool atmosphere; thats not all Hollywierd then go here. I went on a Saturday and there was a cover of five bucks; get there early to find parking on the back streets. Beware that out of no where the place can suddenly become packed. Pros: good looking guys more

  • The Scene
The owners of the Room expanded their nightlife vision with another bass-heavy hipster hang on the Westside, enlivening this once lackluster space known as the Pink and the Mix. A word-of-mouth ethos--no sign, no advertisements--and a low-lit, cave-like interior carries on the tradition of the Room, but also adds flair with its shades of deep red, worn wood and exposed brick. A narrow bar runs down the side, leading to a DJ booth and lounge area. The contempo couches and tables in back are cast aside when the DJs deliver a hot and heavy dose of classic hip-hop, soul and rare groove.

    The Draw
The inviting music and casually dressed crowd sets a laid-back, yet versatile vibe where you can chat, chill or cut it up. The underground appeal and oceanside locale attracts a geographically diverse crowd of beach babes, city slickers and urban scenesters.
