Bank of Clarke County

They don't deserve the 1-star rating, so I'm off-setting it. Overdraft protection is basically always at the bank's discretion these days. A sweep arrangement would be ideal--don't know if they offer this or not. I manage several and significant deposit accounts at this institution for a small business and I'm pretty happy with the service I've been given. I also just opened a completely free personal checking account here--one of the only places where that's possible, with no strings attached about miminum balance or direct deposit. more

Have been there 20+ years over 200k a year in deposits. Now they can not stand behind there products and services they offer. Gone down hill!!!!!!!! They claim they offer Overdraft Protection up to $500 for the type of account I opened. My account had positive balance at the time a check came through that was under the $500 overdraft Protection Thursday. The bank sent the check back Friday and charge me $35 dollar return check fee. A deposit came in Monday for 3k. I called Monday and asked why the bank sent the check back based on it was under the $500 overdraft protection on the account. Branch Manger stated" the overdraft protection is up to the discretion of Branch Manager and overdraft protection is not guaranteed ". That not what is stated on the banks web site or on the paper work I signed to open the account. When all the other local banks were swallowed up by giants like BB&T, the bank of clarke remained. When BB&T demonstrated their absolute disregard for their customers satisfaction, an awful lot of us went to the bank of clarke and have been thrilled with the improvements. They'll work with you, and actually admit if there's been a mistake made on their end- if there's a disagreement, they'll make sure you go away, if not happy, at least convinced they gave you all the slack they could. more
