My mom turned me onto this place 15 years ago and it has been a favorite ever since -- my 5 year old daughter begs me to take her there, and my 9 year old son loves it, too...although you wouldn't call it a "family" restaurant.
Bamboo House specializes in the business lunch crowd, and they do bang-up business at mid-day. They do have a menu, but I've only seen someone ask for it once or twice; the buffet is the big draw.
They pretty much offer the same items all the time, though one or two variations pop up. Honey chicken is a fave, as is the jumbo shrimp with veggies. Sesame chicken is great, and they have hands down THE BEST hot and sour soup around (note: the closer to empty the pot is, the better it tastes!).
Last year they added several new buffet tables with some shrimp and crawfish items, along with some great sauteed mushrooms.
Desserts are the typical almond cookies, jello, and some barely passable pastries. Skip those and get the Blue Bell ice cream sandwiches. :)
Prices are very reasonable both at lunch and supper, and they offer discounts for the kids. Service is WONDERFUL -- be sure to tip 'em well!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Baton Rouge area, of all types of food.
