You'll get a decent workout on this 3.1-mile loop. Leave from the Townshend State Park campground, and climb the 1.7 miles to the 1,608-foot summit.
The crown has grown in since it got its name, but ledges facing east and west afford striking views. On the shorter trail back, you'll follow parts of an old carriage road along a tumbling brook.
Just beyond the mountain is the Townshend Dam, a nice place to take the kids for a picnic lunch and a swim after hiking.
