It is wonderful that your friend spent some time in Argentina, but, while I hate to disappoint you, Balaton is a Hungarian restaurant, named after a large lake close to Budapest. The food is Hungarian. In fact, it is Americanized Hungarian, meaning they make the food the way they think Americans would expect Hungarian food to taste. And they are wrong. Just because you pour a great amount of paprika on something, that does not become Hungarian food. As a Hungarian, I was ashamed to take some of my American friends there. The prices are outrageously high. PROS: Nice decoration CONS: Awful food, high prices more

If you eat only one meal in Cleveland... 9/25/2005

I was meeting my parents in Cleveland for the weekend (all of us from out of state), and I needed a good, preferably Hungarian, restaurant to take them for their 39th wedding anniversary. I doubt I could have chosen better. The food was excellent (the breaded mushroom appetizer just like my mom's grandmother used to make), the recorded music authentic, the decor appropriately themed and tasteful, and the service always attentive if somewhat slow (any waiter would refill our coffee and water without waiting to be asked, even though we were not seated in their area). The portions were extemely generous, so don't be afraid to order the ""small"" plate. Finally, the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough! Pros: food, decor, friendly Cons: somewhat slow service more

divine food 8/2/2005

i had a friend who lived in Argentina for a bit, and he introduced me to the wonderful world of Argentine food... Pampas doesn't disappoint. I was wandering by on a walk, and as we stood near, I decided we should go eat there (even though it was 10 pm!) We ordered the Milanesa....man, it was wonderful! Large enough for 2 people to easily share. Not too greasy, lovely crispy breading. We also got bread with our meal with chimichurri sauce. There was a generous helping of vegetables that came on the side. Afterwards, we ordered the crepes. They came with dulce de leche (a caramel) I could have died! I would go there every day if I could afford such a course of action! PROS: food CONS: price more
