We sat outside to avoid the musty smell from the bar. The server was attentive and the beer was cold. Pros: bread Cons: food is not fresh

Bakehouse is the best! 1/12/2010

I'm new to the Austin area and I could only find three restaurants here that have Liver and Onions on their menu. They are Threadgill's, Luby's and the Bakehouse. I've tried them all and the Bakehouse is the best. In fact, better than anyplace else I've ever had this dish (my previous favorite was at a small diner in Michigan). I can't vouch for the rest of their food, but if you love Liver and Onions, the Bakehouse is the place to go. Outstanding! - Marylin I. more

Hat's off to you, Bakehouse 1/8/2010

I am a firm believer that when you you go to a restaurant, you're not just buying food, you're not just buying service, you're renting a little piece of atmosphere. Hat's off to you, Bakehouse. You get that. Your weird obsession with globes and maps, your old-school breakfast diner coffee stop flair, your unpretentious everything. You're might be called frumpy, but you have a really striking personality. Your food is totally solid and honest, and it fits with the atmosphere like a puzzle piece. And the bar? I could have a perfect evening just sitting at that bar. We could talk about maps. - Uncle D. more

This is a great little local restaurant with great food and service (and generous servings), which has been around forever. Now a south Austin icon, it has over time become a part of what makes Austin, Austin. The outdoor deck has been a good addition, and at the right time you might find a little guitar pickin' out there! I would recommend it to anyone. Greg Q more

I love the Bakehouse! The little details, like serving fresh mint with the iced tea, is what puts them ahead of many places - especially the blah chain restaurants. The fact that they have so many regulars that keep coming back is a good indication of the service, the food, and the overall dining experience. - Lynn more

  • In Short
Upon first glance, the Bakehouse is a place you'd expect to find authentic American comfort food, not the wide array of international dishes the menu offers. But the variety...
