I've been to the Bagel Bakery on Alvarado St. about five or six times now. I only go because of its location in downtown Monterey. The bagels are--well, bagels! Cream cheese is cream cheese, right? Their coffee bar is average. I'd like to see insulated containers for the cream. Instead, they choose to leave the half-and-half in room-temperature store cartons. The service is horrible. I repeat: Horrible! Apparently, it's owned by an older Asian couple. The husband has no personality. The only words he'll mutter contain the price for your order. The guy has a poker face to be envied. The wife is a little more tolerable, but not friendly. And if you get their son (or nephew?), forget it! The kid appears to be serving a sentence. It's as though none of the staff want to be running a bagel shop. Anyways, I'll go back, but like I said, it's only for the location.
Pros: Location and price.
Cons: Service.
