Whatever ails you, go visit this place! My doc sent me there and I got results way beyond what I expected; well worth the investment. They really know their stuff, and do their research. One of the naturopaths consulted with me 1st to see if I was really interested in my health before I signed up for anything (they're an honest bunch). They did an extensive (but easy, non-invasive) wellness status test for me and I found out my adrenals were shot among other things I had suspected (long work hours). Then they designed my own personal wellness program last spring. I go there regularly now and have never been more healthy and fit. My back feels great and I have lots of energy (which I had long lost somewhere at work) and, something weird; my headaches are also gone. I see chiropractors and dentist going in there too. I am about to start their yoga classes (after an injury in my gym yoga class). They go beyond just yoga but I'm there for the experienced teachers & that safety factor. Can't wait. We're lucky to have them in this area; I wish my aunt in Philly had something like this. more

This is just on of the many truly hip place in Del Ray. The store specializes in alternative wellness related subjects. They provide a unique massage. You lie on a bed that combines massaging rollers, heat and far-infrared light to straighten the spinal chord, relax muscles, improve circulation and increase energy. This bed really worked the kinks out of my bed. It was the deepest massage I’ve ever received. more

Back to Chi is a storefront, new-age health-related business in Alexandria's Del Ray section that, among other things, offers free trial massages on jade-roller beds made by a manufacturer called Ceragem. I had a friend who swore by these massages and got me to go with her one day. The place itself is very pleasant. Massages are offered regularly throughout the day, and while one group is receiving massages, the next group hears a lecture explaining the science and medicine of how the beds work. I could not relay the details to you, but I will say that I felt incredible for 24 hours after my massage. The visit itself was somewhat painful to me - but I have a bad back and that could be why. I also was told that some people experience pain on their first visit or so, until they get used to the feeling. While I was here, and waiting for my massage, someone sat me under some special light (infrared? Does that make sense?) for about 10 minutes and -- this really happened -- I felt the deep, deep level of relaxation I've felt only a handful of other times in my life...one was after experiencing a Native American sweat lodge in upstate New York. Another was after having a Reiki massage. That was just from the light. Go visit Back to Chi. They seem to have a wealth of knowledge about alternative health issues. more
