Bodies of prisoners 1/4/2007

The Bodies exhibit is displaying the bodies of dead Chinese prisoners sold by the Chinese government. These aren't people who willed their bodies to science. I, personally, find it pretty sad that they've done this to people who had no say in how their bodies would be "flayed" and displayed in death. more

Worth every penny, and I'm a cheapskate! 11/27/2006

I was lucky enough to see the Bodies exhibit a few days before it opened to the general public. There was a special viewing for the medical community. I did not have to pay the $25, but after going through the exhibit I gladly would have. I spent almost 3 hours being amazed and overwhelmed. In addition to the whole human bodies on display, there are sections dedicated to different systems of the body. There are different parts of the body on display, for example healthy lungs and lungs with cancer. There is too much to talk about in one review, but this is a must see exhibit. I don't spend more than $25 on a pair of jeans, but I would gladly pay that to see this exhibit! more

Bodies Exhibit 11/24/2006

I don't know that this is truly something that should be put under the "busines" catagory but none of the other Judy's Book sections seemed appropriate. Last weekend I went to see the Bodies Exhibit showing at the exhibit hall across the street from the downtown Convention Center at 8th and Pike. While the entry fee seems a bit hefty at $24.50 per adult I have to say after having gone through it that it was worth the money. My friend and I spent 2.5 hours looking through the exhibit and what we found was really astounding - and I'd have to say that pretty much all the other people we saw there thought the same thing. The exhibit is much more than you think it will be - there are more individual pieces of the body on display and the format for posing the full body exhibits are masterful while at the same being pretty whacked. Who'd have thought to pull the muscles away from a body to show all the layering and the full 360 degree exposure of musculature? Other bodies are flayed open and one shows a de-boned body and its musculature facing each other. It sounds awful but it's oddly fascinating seeing how the body relates to itself bone to muscle. Another room shows an incredible series of displays that show only the blood vessels/veins/arteries of the human body (and parts). Just the method for creating this view of the bodies interior is mind-blowing but to see it on display is even more so. Other versions might show sliced bodies whether in larger segments or in the fine slices that help doctors with understanding how MRI imaging will look. No matter how you look at it this is an exhibit worth seeing. Granted, there is controversy as to how these various humans became part of the exhibit, but the exhibit itself is truly worth it if you have a curiosity of the human body. I highly recommend it! http://www.museumtix.com/venue/program.asp?vid=678&pid=178008 more
