2010 Fall Dining Guide 10/16/2010

By Tom Sietsema Sunday, October 17, 2010 Ray's Hell-Burger in Arlington has its charms, but if President Obama ever decides to alter his burger run, he ought to consider another home-grown mini-chain, this one from entrepreneur Mark Bucher. "No shortcuts, no pre-cooking, no heat lamps," the menu pledges. The food delivers on that promise; even a basic burger starts with prime, aged, hormone-free, corn-fed beef from the Midwest and rests on a toasted sesame-seeded brioche bun. Juicier still: The patty is cooked the way you ask, and you don't have to settle for beef. Also available are ahi tuna, turkey, lobster, cumin-and-mint-laced lamb (love the crusty Greek burger), even black beans, brown rice and molasses (the vegetarian version). The fries, made with Yukon Gold potatoes, are double-fried and tasty, and the shakes are so thick, they're easier to eat with a spoon than a straw. Good news for denizens of Clarendon: A fifth Joint is expected to open at 3024 Wilson Blvd. by year's end. The Dupont Circle branch, with blond-wood booths, purple walls and Christmas-light chandeliers, is closest to the White House. Got that, Mr. President? more

fantastic juicy burgers 6/7/2010

This may be the best of the new burger chains in DC. The burgers are amazing. My wife's medium cooked burger may have been a little overcooked. My med rare was perfect. The fries are fantastic too. It's not cheap - 2 bacon cheese burgers, 1 fry, and 2 drinks is ~ $30. I'd like to try the lobster roll but don't know if I could not order the burger... more

Juicy Burgers 4/26/2010

During my first week in D.C., my friend and I ran into The Burger Joint and had an awesome meal. I had a beef patty and she had a vegan patty. Delicious burgers, great value for your money. Friendly staff and great atmosphere/music. more

Delicious and creative 4/20/2010

Love this place right on Dupont Circle. They'll cook a burger pretty rare (which is pretty rare) and the griled asparagus fries and sweet potato option help me feel better about the grease. Lovely milkshakes, and REALLY creative burger choices--lamb (YUM), lobster, ahi tuna, wellington. Ruined other high-end burgers for me. more

Just another burger joint. 3/29/2010

This feels like the kind of place that should be a late-night service operation only. The music is too loud to carry a conversation over, the disco ball in the front window is always turning and after a night of drinking, you won't mind overpaying. The burgers are decent but get pricey if you want something more than the basic. The shakes (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry), sprayed with whipped cream on top, taste like your run-of-the-mill shake, but the sweet potato fries were a winner (surpassing the dry regular fries), with good seasoning. The service was slow on an early weeknight and the hygiene slightly questionable (grill-man, please don't wipe your nose on your finger and not wash your hand). Pros: sweet potato fries Cons: pricey more
