Ben’s as been around this area for awhile. It is a great option during the day or even better in my opinion for a late night for a meal. They make great chili here. I usually get something with chili. They make great chili dogs, chili burgers and the best may be the loaded chili fries. more

God I loved this place. The food here is amazing. Ordering your food can be a little confusing, it seems like it changes every time I come here. I love their chili half smoke with an order of loaded chili fries. This food is not good for your health but I always feel great when I leave this fantastic place. more

An institution 1/14/2006

This is my favorite place for late nights eats in the city. Ben’s Chili Bowl is an institution in this area. All the food is of amazing quality. My personal favorite is their half-smoke, have one and I promise you won’t be disappointed. The only negative is the service is sometimes slow because the place occasionally gets large rushes of customers that bottlenecks the ordering process. more

Ben’s chili bowl is a dc institution. Sometimes you just want to stuff your face with tasty, greasy fare—and Ben’s chili bowl definitely hits the spot! Ditto the half-smoked. Definitely try the chili fries. Don’t look for a gourmet experience—just look for something easy and yummy. It’s open late too, to satisfy all those late night munchies. more

Chili cheese half-smoke 8/15/2005

Go to Ben’s. Get a half-smoke. Get it extra-well-done, almost burnt. Get chili and cheese on top. Get two if you’re hungry. You will be happy. They’re open late, so maybe you could go right now. In additional news, the cheese fries are good, too. Ben’s is a DC institution. It is the longest continually-black-owned business in the city. Long may it reign. more

A DC Institution 8/15/2005

Ben’s Chili Bowl is essential DC dining. Be prepared: this place is not at all fancy. But the food and the chili is awesome. It’s been on U street for over 30 years and numerous celebrities have stopped in, including Bill Cosby who is rumored to have had a particular fondness for the place. It’s also one of the few remaining vestiges of the old, mostly African-American U Street, which is rapidly changing. Try the classic chili half-smoke and some chili fries and a shake for a satisfying meal (and the slices of cake are not to be missed as well). more
