Lunch Specials: $10.95 comes with salad, unlimited tasty fresh, WARM, pita bread, yogurt sauce, savory green spicy sauce, and your choice of kebab of beef, chicken, shrimp on your choice of rice - saffron, brown, or our favorite, green (dill and lima beans added) rice. There is ALWAYS enough to take home and stretch into another meal, great given current economy.
Food is always delicious, tasty, and fresh. The vegetables are great and fire roasted.
Not one for appetizers, but these falafels are the BEST on Long Island -- usually a fan of only a place in downtown NYC, these are supremely good -- possibly better than my usual falafel haunt! The Hummus...soo good! The Kashkeh Badenjan (think hummus but made with eggplant and tomato) -- my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE APPETIZER! I COULD eat a vat of this - THAT GOOD!
Also tasty are the Sambuseh - fried dumplings of crispy heaven - filled with chickpeas and veg. The pickles and olive appetizer rounds out our favorite appetizers!
The desserts- my favorite is the faluda - a rose water shaved ice with sour cherries - outrageously refreshing on a hot summer night. There is also a Persian Ice Cream which is also great and of course, your baklavas.
End your meal with some tea.
The best part of this place is the owner, Mr. Sheiklar, who will inevitably ask you to call him by his first name (I leave that to you to find out by going there!) and the way he welcomes you by NAME each and EVERYTIME and recalls little quirks (my husband is left handed and so drinks his water, wine, tea with his left hand -- and the staff and Mr. Sheiklar ALWAYS remember to serve his water glass on his left side! -- not even at Le Bernadin does this get noted!) and his staff, Edgar, Jose, and Carlos, most especially the latter, are extraordinarily attentive to your every need. Very gracious.
Now onto the downside: the crowds -- please be advised to make a reservation, the crowds on Fri and Sat Nights are insane which leads to the other problem, finding parking, go early.
