Interesting place 9/11/2008

I thought it would be an interesting experience to try Afghani food, but it was just kind of average...This is my first time trying Afghani food and I'm not sure what is ""good"" for Afghani but the food here wasn't horrible, it was simply edible. We had kabobs and it tasted like something you would get at a family BBQ. Some beef, chicken, and bell peppers. The scenery was an attempt at elegance but didn't quite make the mark. Parking however wasn't easy to find, we ended up parking on the street a block or so away. \r \r On a positive note, service was excellent and the waitress was nice enough to look over the fact that we accidentally broke a wine glass. If you want to be in a quiet place, there is a private room by the door facing the window that is quite cozy. Pros: Service, and cozy room Cons: Food was average at best. more

Great Food! 10/21/2007

I've eaten here a few times and each time I try something new, and have never been disappointed. The hot tea is great too. It has an elegant but family-owned feeling that gives it great charm. There's a lot of love and care put into every aspect of the food and service. Pros: Ambience, food, service Cons: Parking might be difficult. more

Delicious kabab and great service 4/16/2007

Our first time trying Afghanastani food, and maybe it was because I was craving Kabab, but this was really good juicy chicken kabab. The rice with it was sooo good too. I came home trying to find recipes online for the rice but couldn't find anything as good. So go check it, it's worth it. It's really quaint inside, and our server was soo sweet and friendly, it was like visiting a family restaruant. Pros: Food and service Cons: Location off Colorodo ( main street) more

Fantastic Cuisine- a MUST TRY! 11/3/2006

I first tried Afghan cuisine up in Santa Cruz, and ever since, have been searching high and low for a place here in LA- and this is it! Azeen's was a fantastic experience; my parents and I had a very nice, elegant dinner. Our waitress actually grew up in Afganistan, and answered our questions about what it was like living there, the cuisine, etc. The food was amazing- it's a wonderful mix of persian and indian influences, but has it's own edge that makes it so deliciously unique. I really hope this place continues to thrive and do well- it's definately worth checking out! The decor is very nice, with images of the country and painted murals, but it's a very classy place to go with a date/ good friends. more

Fabulous Food! 9/22/2006

We decided to try this restaurant based off Citysearch Reviews, and it was our first time trying Afghani food. We were worried at first (not sure what to order, and what it'd taste like), but after the warm, hospitable welcome by the staff and the first bite, all our worries melted away!\r \r From the dishes we tried, Afghani food is pure delectable delights! There's some influences of Persian and Indian, but it stands on its own as well. We started off w/ the Sambosas appetizers (essentially similar to Indian Samosas), with a Ground Lamb marinated filling. It was very tasty. Then came our 2 entrees: A Lamb Eggplant Stew (Badenjan Challaw) and the Lamb Shish-kabobs (Kabob-e-Gousfand). Let me just say: It was AWESOME! :) The Badenjan Challaw (Lamb Stew) was filled with so much love and care, the Lamb meat literally melting in your mouth, soft, and extremely tender! I was truly blown away. The Lamb Kabobs were very well done as well, but naturally firmer than the Lamb Stew. But the quality of the meat, the spices and flavors, as well as the wonderful fragrant Rice+Herbs sealed the deal! \r \r For 2 of us, the Appetizer and 2 Entrees were more than enough (and I'm a big eater)! The interior decoration was charming and warm, and I'm more than excited to come back again very soon. A+! Pros: Amazing Lamb Stew; Great distinct Food Cons: Slightly pricey more

flawless 7/25/2006

This is the best meal I've had in a long time. We were welcomed by a charming hostess who oozed afghani culture, asked us if we had ever eaten afghani before, and gave us a brief but informative introduction to the food. I wasn't very hungry at the time so I got an appetizer platter, and I couldn't help but finish it all. The leek scallion dumplings were unique, delectable, full of flavor, and unlike anything I've ever had at restaurant before. I had some of my brother's lamb and rice dish too (can't remember the name of it unfortunately), which also was delicious. both came with a salad topped with a tasty yoghurt dressing. the meal just kept getting better and better. best of all was the rosewater pudding, which I highly recommend. our server was very nice, helpful, and efficient. it was more than a great meal: it was an experience that left a smile on my face the rest of the evening. more
