As for Dr. Jenkins, he is one of the most brilliant rabbit vets I've ever known, and I've had the privilege of having my rabbits cared for by Gregory A. Mertz, D.V.M., Chairman of the Board of the New England Wildlife Center and founder of a Massachusetts practice called the Odd Pet Vet.\r \r I drive 100 miles to this wonderful hospital because one visit to the Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital will actually save you time and money because you will receive the best care available.\r \r For example, a rabbit of mine that suffered for 9 months with a respiratory infection (under the care of another vet) was cured in 1 visit to Avian & Exotic in San Diego!\r \r Bottom line, if you can get your exotic pet to this San Diego vet - DO IT! more

Avian & Exotic was the first (and only) vet I've found to cater to my pet rats so far. The staff is great, and the Vet is a good vet.. tends to have "attitude" and talked down about people I am associated with, which I didn't appreciate. the pricing, though, Is rediculous. I took my girl in for a --TOOTH TRIM-- and it was 152 dollars and some change. the first visit, I understand since she needed an exam, but it was 152 the second time as well. It's a rediculous price for a tooth trim that is required atleast once a month. But, if you have that kind of money, They definitely do the job but I know there are plenty of other exotic vets in the area that will do just as good if not a better job. more

I came to the Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital only after visiting other veterinarians who clearly did not know how to handle my African Grey. Not so with the folks at Avian & Exotic. I went for a small problem but it is good to know where to go if my parrot were really sick. more

I visited this office to get help for my turtle. My first impression of the place started off great, but it soon changed once I met the vet. Instead of at least pretending to be happy to see me and my turtle, he immediately began to lecture me on the fact that I own a hatchling turtle and that I am immoral for perpetuating the sale of baby turtles. I was EXTREMELY put off by this. Here I was, a responsible pet owner willing to pay good money to get help for my beloved pet, and I was made to feel unethical and ignorant. I understand that the vet has a strong opinion on this issue and he is certainly entitled to it, but to judge his customers and actually tell them that is really uncalled for.\r \r my turtle did recieve proper care, and the assisting staff was very friendly, but i left the place dissappointed with how i was treated. i will not go there again. more

One day my African snake stopped moving and my son panicked thinking that his pet had died. When he called me at work, I didn't know what to do but somehow found Avian and Exoric Animal Hospital in the yellow pages and made an appointment. When I explained this was emergency, they took us in right away although they were pretty booked with appointments. I was pleasantly suprised to have found really caring staff for our exotic member of our family. I will definitely keep them as my future pet's hospital. more
