When so many of us diligently try to support small businesses, independent bookstores and the like it is nice to have an option for independent movie going as well. The info in the lobby will tell you all about how concerned citizens rallied to save their own piece of the silver screen, but beyond the civic pride this is a great place to see a movie. Theater One is the main attraction - an old school big, red curtained screen with warm acoustics, nice seats and a gorgeous mural overhead. Theater Two is much smaller and generic compared to the treasure downstairs but it is intimate. The Avalon often pays host to opening nights by local filmmakers and to film festivals. In an era of big-box blandness it is lovely to support a movie theater that supports the community in return.
