Buyer beware 3/24/2011

This is a copy of a letter I sent to corporate headquarters (Mr. Tire):\r \r I want to report some questionable practices at the AutoTire, 3620 Harvester Road, St Charles, MO, 63303 (636-447-2727). I brought my 2009 Toyota Corolla in for an Oil Change and Emissions/Inspection yesterday (03/23/11). The manager brought me out to the bay to see the tires on my car-- said they all needed replacing. I agreed and purchased 4 new tires. When I came home, my daughter (who also drives the car) said that she had just purchased a new Kelly Tire 01/04/11 for the front passenger side. We pulled out the work invoice and there it was -- a new tire with wheel alignment. I called AutoTire. I was told all 4 tires removed today from my car were Bridgstone (original with the car), and that I must be mistaken. I drove back to AutoTire with the invoices. The 01/04/11 showed my car, VIN #, and license with a new tire put on and alignment. The invoice for 03/23/11 showed my car, license, but a different VIN #. The shop manager reverified that the tires removed from my car today were ALL 4 original tires (NO new Kelly Tire). I was greatly concerned that AutoTire charged my daughter for a new tire and Wheel Alignment and DID NOT DO THAT WORK! She had been told in January that the right front tire was damaged and unsafe to drive on-- now I found out that we had been driving around on that tire for 2 1/2 months! AutoTire refunded the original Kelly Tire and an addition $20, but no explanation was given to me about this incident. I was simply told by Troy (the bay manager) that he would investigate this. I then went home and pulled out ALL my son's receipts for the past year from AutoTIre for his car (a 2006 Sebring) My husband and I were angered to learn that he had been charged THREE times for a coolant flush and valv cooling system work (07/12/10, 02/22/11 and 03/18/11)! That is $120 each time! (And he had declined that same service on 01/05/11!!) It seems like every time he went in, the management pushed for this to be done--adding additional UNNEEDED expense.\r \r At this point we cannot return to AutoTire for any further work on our cars. We do NOT trust that we will be treated honestly. This reflects on your entire company as we will avoid ALL AutoTires in the future. \r \r \r more

If that is the same Scott that used to work at the transmision place off the service road and I think it is, don't trust them. Autotire used to be one of my major players until I saw him. If thats the same dude he charged me $300 to tel me the tranny was shot. He gave us big hope and knew the tranny didn't have a chance. Him realizing we were short on money and the car is offically off the the junk yard he tried to get us to sell them the car for $300.00 or something like that with at least one follow-up call. He Seemed agitated when we told him we were donating it to charity. T his was a nice car and everything worked perfect other than the trasmision .Autotire did something else slick awhile back but i can't remember what it was. more

Friendly but can overdo it. 10/26/2005

We've been going to this AutoTire for years, because its right up the street from our house. We've made friends with the manager, Scott. But somehow, no matter how long we've been their customers.. they seem to screw things up. Everytime my mom takes in her Cougar for some general maintenance, she comes out spending $300+. They make things up.. You need this belt, you need new brakes, oh and the key broke off in the ignition. There wasnt even anything wrong with the key before we took it in. For general tire stuff.. They do a good job. But anything important? Id go elsewhere. more

Ive had some good and bad experiences taking my car to autotire, but many more good than bad. They generally tell you how it is straight up, and every thing that they have fixed has stayed fixed. more
