Having read all the negative reviews of Dr. Scumpia, I feel that I need to tell my story. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Thyroid Cancer in January of 2007. A very skilled surgeon,...

On Dr. Scumpia's advice, I had half of my thyroid surgically removed. A week later, my hypothyroidism symptoms (including uncontrollable crying and horrible fatigue) had become j...

Serious & Helpful 7/1/2006

Don't expect hand holding and a smile when you walk in the door, but you will be helped and taken seriously regarding your symptoms. It took me nearly three years to get diagnosed with thyroid disease until I found Dr. Scumpia. She is efficient and very serious about her work. ...One thing though - since moving into the new HUGE facility behind where her old office was, the wait time is longer, the actual appointment time is shorter and you feel like you're a part of cattle getting herded in & out the door. She has too many patients now and it shows! A great nurse who works there is named Garry - great alternative to waiting on the doctor herself. Pros: Brilliant doctor, helpful, takes your symptoms seriously Cons: Busy, not very friendly more

She never call you back 5/18/2006

These people won't communicate with you. Maybe they take too many patients...you feel like a number there. They don't care about you...they care about the money your insurance pays them. I'm a cancer patient trying to get her to call me back with my last lab. result and I can't get her after a week calling her 3 times a day! I don't have medication for 7 days now and she doesn't care???!!!! I'm going somewhere alse. Cons: no communication, unresponsable, uncaring more

Just Getting Started 12/6/2005

I found this Endocrinologist after an emergency following several years of chronic medical problems. Found her on Texas Top Docs. What was said there was accurate. I can't doubt her analytic skills. However, look for the smiles and encouragement from the office staff. She has moved her practice into a new building. It is humongous by Austin standards. In-house lab (Quest) and bone density scanning. She is serious! I can't recally comment on expense. I had to sign waiver I would pay for labs not covered by insurance, but that is becoming pretty standard these days. A very busy, respectable-looking practice where specialists are hard to find. You HAVE to see someone like this if you are tired, gained or lost weight, been told you are just nuts (females especially). I'm pretty savvy and still ended up here. Pros: Professional, No Parking Problems--, Busy but punctual Cons: If your doc HAS to be, friendly then you may, be disappointed. more
