Formerly the Virginia 4/24/2006

This building started out as the Guild Theatre in 1925. The interior is in tune with its origin - not as ostentatious as some other interior opting instead for simple, yet elegant design. In 1981, it was renamed the Virginia in 1981 in honor of the owner of Jujamcyn Theatres, Virginia M. Binger. The latest honor goes to the late playwright August Wilson. In 2005, Broadway honored his work in the American theatre by making his the first African-American name to grace a Broadway theatre. The seats here are great -- legroom! I am not sure about handicap access as the first level is up several sets of stairs. I love the terra cotta walls here - its interior is simple, but beautiful! Recent hits: CITY OF ANGELS, JELLY'S LAST JAM, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and JERSEY BOYS. more
