I went into Atlantic Shoreline to have my car's dvd player looked at for possible repair and although I was told they would tell me any expenses before fixing it, they never once mentioned anything of a diagnostic fee. After a few minutes, they came back to tell me they could not fix the unit ""and oh yeah, that will be $20."" $20 to look at the unit for a minute and tell me they could not fix it?! I made it very clear I was not told up front about this--on the phone or when I first came into the shop but they insisted I pay. They were holding my car keys so I found myself in quite a predicament.
I walked out feeling robbed and like they had tried to scam me--get me in the door and then claim the unit is not fixable so I would spent 1K on one of their new ones. And in the very least, they just made a cool $20 for a few minutes of their time. It makes me wonder if they even bothered to look at the unit at all. I have since found another shop that although they only install new units, they were nice enough to give me the name of a repair guy that sometimes can repair the unit and has a lot of success. They said to try the repair guy before having them install a new one. It is nice to know there are still atleast some honest businessmen out there.
I can say nothing of the work Atlantic Shoreline does since I will never again give them my business but I can say be careful. Make sure you realize it'll cost you $20 just for walking in their door to have them take a quick look.
