Atelier Aveda Salonspa & Studio

I used to see Marissa deLory at Juut a couple of years ago & when she left I had a hard time trying to find her, the salon wouldn't give me her info. However I found her & thank GOD. I've been trying out friends' reccomendations while trying to find her which means my hair has looked awful for about a year. Marissa is a cutting specialist(she doesnt do color)and believe me, she knows how to cut. I have thick coarse asain hair that looks soft & light after she's done cutting. I really like that she tells me what will & won't work.While I think Marissa's great, I wasn't so impressed with Atelier. The first time I came in this summer, the first person I saw whas a receptionist with unkept braids and a short skirt. She mumbled hi while reapplying lipstick. How irritating she couldn't be bothered to check me in when I walked in but she sat & stared me down during the entire haircut. As unnerving as that experience was,I decided to give the salon another chance because Marissa is so talented. This time I had color done before my cut. The girl who did my color was nice enough but when I was processing, the whole salon had to listen to her complain to her other client about her boyfriend, another client( what would she say about me?!) & about what she was doing that weekend. She's supposed to be a senior level stylist but she sounded like she was still in high school. When I moved to California 18 months ago I had to find a new hair salon. I tried multiple salons, but did not find anything good until not so long ago when I discovered Atelier Aveda. I had a great experience with Kristen. She did an awesome job to understand what I was looking for. My hair is exactly what I wanted. I also really liked the relaxing atmosphere! This is so different than everywhere else! Its totally worth the price. more

I always had a lot of skin care conserns, infact i recently started to get acne as an adult. I found Claudia at Aveda about 9months ago, and i have to say that i will never trust anyone else with my skin. From the beginnig she was honest and didnt try to sell me the whole store. I do like their product for basic cleansing, but the biggest difference has been since the facial services. Claudia really knows her stuff!! Infact, if you are looking for a perfectionist she is the one, she loves extractions. Even though my skin may feel a bit sensitive after the service, it is well worth it. I love the Atelier Salon! I found a Dream Team of professionals at Atelier including Jennifer Bradford who does amazing color and cuts, Marissa Delorey who also does amazing cuts and Claudia Lopez who gives A+ facials! more

I moved here from out of state a couple years ago and had an awful time finding a stylist I trusted that could deliver beautiful results. After several bad experiences elsewhere, I gave Steve a try and he is amazing! He spent so much time speaking to me about exactly what I wanted and what he believed would work within those parameters. It was quite apparent to me that Steve knew exactly what he was doing just based upon his comments regarding my hair, my face, my look and how much time I want to spend styling my hair daily. He spent a lot of time doing this first cut and he did an amazing job by giving me the best layers, shape, etc..I have had in years. Steve also impressed me because he did not pressure me to buy products--I chose to do so on my own volition. The staff was also very considerate and complimentary about my new cut. I will definitely go back and I plan to have Steve highlight my hair as well in the future. Marissa is awesome. She knows what she is doing and does it really well. My sister was visiting from Chicago and I was so glad that Marissa was able to give her a really cool hair style and was genuine about it. Not fake like a lot of other hairstylists that I have been to. Needless to say, I love her and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good hair cut experience. more

Everyone says how lucky I am to have such great hair... uh, NO. I have the world's greatest hair stylist. I have had so many bad haircuts and stylists sweating over the textured chaos that sits on my head but Marissa goes about cutting/styling it like calm as can be. The quality of her craft is very important to her. Marissa did my hair for my stepsister's wedding & I got more compliments on my hair than hers! Besides her talent, Marissa is just a really cool chick. She's always professional, never flakes and never fake like other stylists I've seen in the past. I always feel beautiful everytime I leave her chair. Atelier is very blessed to have such a gem like Marissa- and so am I! iI have gone to the aveda salon twice. Its a great and fast environment, I love the girl who does my hair. I had an appointment on a Monday and for some reason they had to push my appointment back I was ok with that but they said they would leave me a gift when I got to the desk. I get there not only did they not thank me for letting them push my time back there was no gift. I didnt care just thought It was kinda rude. I was all excited to visit this ""Santana Row"" place, and I was truely disappointed! I know the weekends can be busy for business but it's no excuse to be so unfriendly and shift me around in my robe from one person to another. Atleast view your books and see what I scheduled. There was a man just staring at me while I was 1/2 dressed, it was so uncomfortable. Then during my treatment the girl talked about how I NEED all their products because my skin was awful. Are you serious? My skin is far from needing every product, furthermore, I could hear noises and then both girls complained about their jobs! Never Again!!!! Atelier Aveda is the best salon in terms of having staff who listen and provide excellent service. From the moment you call they are willing to solve your styling needs. At the salon I was greeted by a staff person who set me up with herb tea. I met Steve and discussed what I wanted to achieve. Steve listened, gave feedback and we decided on a direction. It was the best cut, and color that I have ever received. The color was to die for. I have never had a stylist do exactly what I had asked for in terms of amount to cut, and turn problems into beautiful hair. I am moving to Los Angeles and since I have fallen in love with Steve, I will come back from LA. Pros: Great Staff, Talented Stylists, Nice Atmosphere more

I've had several great haircuts in a row with Marissa Demanico! She listens exceptionally well to my ideas, is talented enough to see what will and won't work, and her suggestions are creative enough to allow for multiple styles with the same cut (easy for everyday, alternatives for going out). Great relaxing scalp and hand massages are included, although you may need to ask for them, and the makeup consultation is a nice way to finish out the trip. Stylists make product recommendations but are not pushy. The ambiance is definitely younger and modern, elegant but probably not for everyone. I found this place noisy and cramped. Trying to even walk into the hair styling area there were boxes everywhere and girls yelling back and forth about inventory information. My hairdresser was sweet, but slow and the results were disappointing. And at the end I was subjected to a tour of the store detailing every product she used in my hair and would I like to purchase anything today. Sheesh. more

my times at aveda have been good i love the enviroment and the head massages are amazing my tiem there i have been taken care of by kristen she is an excellent hair stylist as well as person she is very warm and caring and i also love the calm nature of everyone in the work place. more

My experience wasn't as good as the reviews portray at all. The receptionist isn't all that nice or is she patient with clients. She always seemed to want to rush to hang up on the phone and does not seem to enjoy answering clients' questions! Somewhat rude. The environment was a bit awkward, and you certainly don't feel like you belong... Staff are nice when you first go in, however, they don't even give a ""good-bye"" or ""see you later"" or ""have a nice day"" after you've paid. Certainly NOT worth it from my point of view because of the attitude you receive from the staff. more

If you're looking for the best place, this is it! After a year of great haircuts and facials, I just had to write a review. They never take me for granted at Atelier. When my favorite stylist isn't available, I am totally comfortable trying another one. They aren't all bent out of shape about it. They have a really tight education school there, so everyone is excellent. They remember my name and everyone is really friendly. It's so relaxing there, and I always leave with an awesome haircut and brow shape. Last time I was in there, the owner was cutting hair for the Cirque de solay, and another stylist was doing one of the acrobats. It's always a cool experience there. It's a little crowded sometimes, but that's because it's the best place to go. As long as I get the best cut around, it's ok with me. Pros: Location, Service, Quality Cons: busy-book ahead more

Whenever I move, it's ALWAYS a daunting challenge to find a stylist I am completely happy with, as I have high standards of precise technique and top-notch customer care over the long haul. Marissa has earned my trust and admiration above any other stylist around San Jose. Her committment to her profession and continuing education, and her communication skills are a blessing. She listens closely to my concerns and my style goals and explains options and what she will be doing. I was impressed from my first cut around Oct. '05, when she took time to educate me about aspects of hair care that were unique to my situation. Unlike some other stylists, she never calls embarrassing attention to my hair flaws; she exhibits discretion and sensitivity that others can learn from. Marissa is a sweet soul! I love Steve. He has been my stylist for two years and I hope he will continue to be for a very long time to come. He's extremely brilliant and has the most amazing artistic vision. After everytime I see him I'm blown away by the unique color and cut he has produced. The best thing about it is it looks amazing on me and fits my lifestyle and personality. He's a great communicator and has this wonderful ability to translate what I ask for into something magical. I love that about him! I always get lots of compliments on my color and style, and I'm so proud to say that Steve's my stylist. I had never gotten a facial before so was apprehensive, especially since I was having some skin problems that I had never experienced & was nervous it would make things worse. Well, I didn't need to be; Claudia explained everything as she went thru each process, & always made sure I was comfortable. She has been so helpful! It took several bad hair styles and proclaimed hairdressers before I found the one. Deborah Parkinson at Atelier Aveda cut, colored and styled my hair just the way I wanted it before I knew I wanted it. Women go into salons all the time with the illusion of a celebrity or magazine style and most of the time it doesn't look the same on us. Deborah told me what would and wouldn't work with my hair and styled it according to what my usual routine would be every morning. Thank you for that. You are refreshing.
