Saw Black Dynamite here...Uh-mazing.

Worst

I don't understand either... I went on accident. I didnt realize the matinee was $11. Who would have believed that? This is a touristic, overpriced, crappy theater. Going into it ...

Theatre with Taste 4/4/2004

Ticket is expensive. Yet this is a move theatre and a mini-holly musuem. I'm glad Acrlight is showing "Shaolin Soccer" when there is only two other locations in the state showing as well: San Francisco and New York. There is no pre-preview, thank goodness. The staff are sooooo friendly. Pros: friendly service, good ambience, no pre-preview more

They Have Thought of Everything 2/8/2004

This is the best theatre in all of the Los Angeles/Valley Area...First rate projection equipment, JBL sound system (awarded an Oscar for Technical Achievement) and all auditoriums (except for the Dome) EXCEED THX Certification! All 3 sound systems are available: Dolby Digital, DTS & Sony's SDDS. They show no ads before a movie, instead the usher explains to you what the movie is about and who stars in it (nice to know) Seating if top notch, extra wide armrests and seats that are 3" wider than the norm. The screens range from 30 ft - 60 ft., larger auditoriums are capable of showing 70 mm prints - great showing the classics. Pros: THX, Seating, Screens & Sound more

Nothing better in LA 1/19/2004

$11 Sunday after 6 through Sunday, $14 Friday through Sunday before 6. They finally fixed it so you don't pay $14 on a weekday night. The best picture and sound, period. They keep their prints immaculate. If it's in the Dome, make sure your seats are in the direct center or extreme sides, otherwise the image is very distorted. Excellent, friendly staff. Best popcorn, and their prices are the same as every other theatre, so they don't gouge you there. The Cafe has some really good food and free 4 hour parking (stop at Amoeba next door). The lines can get a little long on the weekends, so print your tickets at home or use the kiosks. They don't let anybody past the tickettaker 5 minutes into the movie. Just go there! It's the best! Well worth the extra few bucks for a big movie on a busy weekend. Pros: Best Theatres, Free Parking, Staff Cons: Lines, $14 for kids more

Paradise for movie lovers 4/10/2003

In short, amazing sound, delicious popcorn, all huge screens, more-comfortable-than-we-deserve seating, and polite service. The smallest screens here are as big as the largest at the best chain multiplexes, so no need to rush seeing a movie. Tickets are expensive, $14 being full price, but come during the week or certain weekend hours and tickets are $11. Membership is free and older movies are $10 during the week and you can get free and discounted movies and snacks. Come for the best/most anticipated new movies and the special events like festivals and Q&A's with the writer/director following the film. Pros: 4 hours free parking, Amazing a/v quality, popcorn and Amoeba Cons: Expensive, matinee reserved seat more

Cream of the crop. 3/24/2003

Of all the movie theaters I've been to, this place takes the cake. They are so into your movie experience they pass on the movie previews and the ever so annoying commercials. The big theater is amazing. Large screen and great sound. The seats aren't stadium style but still not a bad seat in the house. Staff is friendly and the theater nice and clean. Pros: Great Selection, Great Sound, clean and friendly more

$14 + Bar/Cafe = Bourgeois Theatre-going 2/24/2003

Everyone in Los Angeles has heard things about this theatre. Yes, it is bourgeoisie, but... When I went to see "Cinema Paradiso: The Director's Cut" and "Amadeus: The Director's Cut", I *wanted* to be in the hushed, black-box, child-free setting of the Arclight. It was well worth it. "Minority Report" in the Cinerama Dome was something I'll remember forever. With special series featuring admission to a film and a discussion with a key player like a director, writer or actor, it brings the film school to the movie theatre. A refreshing idea. It's not a theatre for every day, (Unless, of course, you've got $$$ like an "S" name: _pielberg, _oderbergh) but if a Director's Cut comes along, of a movie you worship--go for it. If "Citizen Kane" rolls, you can bet I'll be there. It kind of puts the fun back in moviegoing, which had become slightly homogenized. Pros: Great atmosphere, Gr8 parking, restrms, Cafe, Bar, Giftshop Cons: Overpriced concession, $14 bucks a pop?! more

bring a phone book to the Dome! 1/13/2003

Don't even bother going to the Dome if you're not 6 feet tall. The seats are directly behind one another (not staggered) and NOT stadium-style. Bring a phone book or you'll be paying $14 to look at heads, instead of taking in the supposed great visuals and sound. Because of the assigned seating, you just have to deal = too frustrating to even enjoy the movie! Pros: supposed good a/v Cons: NO stadium seating, assigned seating more

Go for the Dome and the Meet the series 12/28/2002

Even though it's massive curved screen distorts vistas and straight lines, the Cinerama Dome is the place to see a movie, especially if it's not playing at Grauman's or the Village. Judgement on the smaller theater is still pending but the "Meet the Writer" series that Arclight just finished was awesome. The next series should be equally as exciting and shouldn't be missed by film buffs. Pros: The Cinerama Dome, No advertisements, Reserved seating Cons: $14!?!?, Reserved seating, The Dome's screen more

Great place for movies 12/22/2002

Great movie theater, a bit $, but much worth it. more

Some Good, Some Bad 12/19/2002

Good: The large screen wraps around to fully envelope you in the movie. Reserved seating makes getting to the theater much easier (no need to rush to get a good seat). Bad: They had problems with the sound. The music was speeding up and slowing down and it was VERY annoying. $14 for a frickin' movie?? The ushers showing EVERYBODY to their seats gets really annoying. I think most people are capable of deciphering 'Row A, Seat 10'. The movies never start on time. This is due to the fact that they do not allow people to enter the theater after the movie has started which means they have to wait for everybody to get their concessions. Pros: Screen Size, Reserved Seating Cons: Way too Expensive more

Their Policy is to Turn Customers Away! 12/8/2002

The Arclight Theatre is NO better than any Stadium Movie Theatre in the Los Angeles Basin even though they think they are! Heaven forbid--you show up a minute late because they will turn you away. This happened to me recently and I noticed that others were being turned away also! It seemed as if Management just delighted in turning their customers away! Assigned Seating--Fine for Evening shows but during matines when they usually are less than 1/4 full, you still must be assigned a Seat. Most people go with the flow and then just sit where they want anyway. It's just ONE more thing to irritate people! A rediculous concept for Matinees! And, for all this you pay a higher price than just about anywhere in the Country! Word of Advice--Choose any Movie theatre down the street and you will be treated better and it won't cost you so much! Pros: Stadium Theatre, Parking OK, Matinees - No Crowds Cons: Too Pricey!, Assigned Seating, Turn Customers Away more

Best Los Angeles Theatre 11/28/2002

For a great movie experience, you have found the best. No commercials before shows. Assigned seating so you don't have to show up an hour early to get your center seat. All screens are HUGE, not like the other megaplexes where theatre 16-26 are smaller than the screen at home. Staff is great. They have a bookstore/gift store that is great to waste time in before a show too. Every seat is big and arm rests can be flown out to cuddle. BEST screens and sound. They also show art movies too. Great concessions. more

MovieGoer's Haven 10/27/2002

Best Sound, Most clean environment, Courteous & Helpful Staff. What more could a moviegoer ask for? Pros: Membership Cons: No Free Parking more

The best 10/15/2002

This complex consistently has the best screen and sound presentation. It is great to be able to buy your seats in advance and to know where you will be sitting. Cons: expensive more

The Dome is the bomb! 9/19/2002

Another classic theater that only gets better. Its wide circular theater is the best for seeing big name films and the speciall offerings that the staff put on make it all the more worthwhile. more

I Can Find My Own Seat 9/18/2002

That's my only problem with this theater -- I prefer not to be seated by a jacketed usher with a flashlight, like I'm at "The Lion King" or something. And if they are going to seat me, they should probably go all out and give me a Playbill, too. Otherwise -- great. Convenient. Comfortable. Good popcorn. Super "members" deals. Really nice little knick-knack store on the ground floor. And excellent wine-and-cheese receptions several times a month. more

Worth Every Penny 9/18/2002

The Price you pay for this experience is worth every penny. I'd paymore for the same experience. Pros: No kids, good audience, clean more

Very nice 9/14/2002

What a great time! From the moment i arrived to the time i left i had nothing but an enjoyable time here. The first thing i noticed was nice and easy parking. Then the happy looking staff more then willing to tell a joke or two. But the most amazing part? I didnt know that movies theaters like this were even around. You get to choose were you seat and actually reserve it. And once you get up to the right movie room there is a nice doorman waiting to direct you to your seats. THe seats? oh so comfortable. I cant wait to go back more

THIS is the place 2 spend $11.00 9/12/2002

on a movie. Yes, it cost us $11.00 per person, but for once I had no qualms once I stepped inside this luxurious cinema. What a experience, comfortable seats, Beautiful Decor, Staff very Customer Service polite and smiling. Ahhhhhhhhh to someone who is a fanatic about getting what you pay for I was pleased. The Movie "Full Frontal" in my opinion wasn't worth the $$ but the Theatre sure was LOL Free parking for first 3 hours!! Pros: Free Parking 4 3 hrs, Nice Staff, Wonderful Interior Cons: No discount pricing more

Excellent Sound System! 9/4/2002

I watched "XXX" here a few weeks ago and had an awesome time! The sound system is probably the best anywhere! Though pricey ($14), it's well worth it if you watch a film requiring a good sound system. the whole place was squeaky clean, seats were nice and comfortable, ushers were very gracious, and the theatre was never packed. Tip: Watch Sundays - Thurdsdays to get the $3 discount. Pros: Super clean, Great Sound system, Free parking Cons: expensive more

  • It's hard to miss this eye-catching cinematic landmark just west of Sunset and Vine. Home to the Cinerama Dome--the geodesic-shaped theater originally built in 1963--this multiplex has all the modern amenities moviegoers have come to expect. Reserved seating? No problem. Pick your seats ahead of time, print the tickets and forget about waiting in line. (Although you can kick it old school and buy tickets directly at the "departure board" if that's your thing.) Comfortable seats? You bet. The plush recliners offer three extra inches of seating space compared to other theaters and the adjustable armrests allow you to cozy up next to your partner. (If you want to, that is.) Gourmet concessions? Absolutely. Choose from popcorn with (real) butter, fresh-made caramel corn, apple-sage chicken sausages and plenty of candy. There's also an onsite restaurant and bar (which, incidentally, provides cocktails for the special 21+ screenings) and a cool gift shop. On weekend nights there's a coffee and tea stand where guests can grab a hot drink and Susina cookie before the show. Once you're in, get ready for the ushers to guide you to your seat and introduce each screening with a short speech.
