Finally I may be told what was done to me 7/5/2009

I recently sent an e-mail to the website of Augusta Plastic Surgery. This practice is located at this hospital. One of the doctors, Randolph Smith, at this practice is also a chairman on the board of this hospital. He is quite a big shot at this hospital and is in leadership at this hospital. Nearly a year and a half ago, he did a procedure on me that I was never told about. There was nothing wrong with me, so the procedure was not necessary. I guess I was just not important enough to examine, consult with or care that he messed me up for no reason. I had hoped one of the other doctors at this practice, Dr. Ewart or Dr. Lynn. would have the decency to finally tell me what was done to me, how it was done, and why it was done on just a hair follicle(bump). A Sandy. Woodward called me and wanted to meet, but then later did not. I guess Dr. Smith does not want to answer why he did a procedure that was not necessary and the patient was never told about.. I got my records and they don't explain what was done or how it was done either. I will have a messed up face for the rest of my life and will not even know what was done, because this doctor did not then and does not now think it is important for me to know.\r This should never have happened. Most practices and doctors think the patient should be informed before doing anything to them. After all the patient should have a say if they even want it done. I would have appreciated this being done. I would never have agreed to what was done to me. Something as drastic as what was done on me should always be revealed to the patient before just doing it - the procedure, the risks, and the aftercare should be discussed. A year later is too late. Dr. Smith and his practice must not think that is important or necessary. A certified doctor has no excuse to be so unprofessional, incompetent, negligent, inconsiderate, etc. Because of Dr. Smith's actions my face is messed up. If he had taken the time to examine me, he would have seen I had no problem. But then I don't know, he still may not have been able to tell a bump from a skin cancer. He may have did the procedure anyway also. Dr. Ewart, Dr. Lynn, and all other doctors at this hospital is this the way ya'll would have done one of your patients? Do you take the time to examine your patients or consult with your patients? Would you do a procedure without even knowing if it was needed? Would you do a procedure before informing the patient about it and giving them the say whether they want it done? How many doctors at this hospital have to have a patient ask them what was done to them over a year later? How many doctors at this hospital operate like Dr. Smith? I have scars on my face because of Dr. Smith's negligence to do what most doctors would have done. This Dr. Smith is in leadership at this hospital. How can he be in charge at this hospital, when he can't even manage to know what to do at his own practice. \r I had hoped to get some answers, but there is no one at the Augusta Plastic Surgery who is interested or decent enough to inform me a year too late.. They did not then and do not now care if I ever find out what was done to me. Will I always have a messed up face and not even know what was done? Dr. Smith could you not have taken a second or two to examine me or consult with me. I should have gone to one of your colleagues who would have taken the time, known what they were doing, let the patient know what was going on, and then I wouldn't be messed up now, Pros: A few good doctors, my husband has seen one Cons: A few bad doctors, I saw one more

  • Occupational Therapy works with individuals whose activities of daily living are disrupted or impaired by developmental deficits, the aging process, physical injury, illness or psychological disability. Occupational therapists' training stresses the need to identify problems that hamper a person's normal day to day tasks, “Occupations” such as feeding, dressing, bathing, cooking, work tasks or leisure skills. Therapists evaluate a client's motion, strength, coordination, sensation, swelling, pain level, endurance, safety awareness, cognitive skills and balance, and determine a treatment plan that will improve any limited areas.

The goal is to help patients regain lost function or overcome disability by learning adaptive skills. Therapy focuses on goal-oriented functional activities and exercises, which may include strengthening, coordination, range-of-motion exercises and provision of splints. Occupational Therapy is staffed with registered occupational therapists.

Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy work as a close team with the many health providers throughout the University system to provide quality care to patients. Evaluation and treatment for both services require a physician's order.

Services are provided to inpatients throughout the hospital. Outpatient services are available in the PT/OT clinic at University Hospital. Programs available through PT and OT offer treatment for lymphedema and vestibular disorders.
