Ashoka Indian Cuisine

I had dinner at the Canton located Ashoka today, however I found the service to be terrible, there were bugs at the restaurant and were all around my seat and around the food. I showed it to the waitress up there and she admitted that as well, however she was non-courteous and she didnot even offer us to have another seat or even didnot bother to look at it. Moreover, when she billed me I was shocked as if this was any other restaurant they wouldnt even charge me for the inconvenience that I faced. I told her that I am suppose to get a discount for the same, and she kept me waiting for 10-15 mins again in the same place - filled with bugs and got me discount of 10% thats 3$ !!!! When I left she looked at me very rudely and didnot even greet. I live in madison heights and for me to receive such a service is ridiculous in this restaurant. I didnot make a scene at that same time, that saved their business and in return I get such a rude, ridiculous behavior from your staff members, that is hard to tolerate. more

They advertise as having the ""largest Indian buffet in town,"" it's actually probably the ONLY Indian buffet in town and average size, with a poor vegetarian selection. Food was ok but bland ... and there were no peppers, pickles, etc. on the buffet to spice the food up a bit. The chutneys on the buffet were sweet or very mild.\r However the service was TERRIBLE!!! Buffet plates were immediately cleared from our table but our water glasses sat empty and were never refilled. We were also unable to get more naan and had to wait 30 minutes for the waiter to bring us our check. more

Three strikes, they are out!\r There's a definite pattern going on here. These guys may have been decent before, but like so many buffet joints, the food quality degrades. I just came back for a lunch buffet and I will NOT go again:(\r It's not only the quality of food in general, it's everything including the service. These include 1:had to ask for more bread three times just to get two more. 2:dirty. the place wasn't this bad before. 3:grilled chicken was rancid, definitely leftover from previous nights. People need to be aware that THIS RESTAURANT is unclean especially in the kitchen! From personal experience I have seen Uh..since I can't say the word in this place...""crawling things that have long anntennas that are brown that no one would want in their home"" on the walls, on the floor and even in the dining room...in fact way more than anyone should expect in a restaurant! They need to care way more about cleanliness and pest elimination. I myself would NEVER eat in a place like this and I take care of restaurant equipment for a living and this is the worst I have ever seen. Beware....you never know what you are eating if you eat here! If they get a good exterminator and fix the problem so be it...I just wanted to make others aware that this place is very unclean in spite of it's appearance! They should be ashamed, but because of my career I see this way more in most Indian restaurants than others...but even others are at fault. If you saw the kitchen at most Indian restaurants...unless you are of Indian descent...you would NOT eat there. I Promise I would never send this if I didn't have 100% knowledge that it's true. I am self evident because I'm now working on a computer for them, that was located in their main dining room that was delivered to me in a plastic bag. I took the cover off the computer and it was FULL of live ""crawly things with long anntennae"" and eggs as well. And THIS computer is located maybe 3 feet from a booth. Perhaps this wont be posted but I don't feel I violate I believe Rule 2 in the Guidelines. This is real and not a fabrication. I am now working on eliminating the ""pests"" that got out of the computer into my apartment...and now not have I only risked infesting my home/office....but my neighbors as well. Disgusting! I would never eat there knowing this.\r \r It's amazing what this website will filter out. I would have used the appropriate words but they weren't allowed in here. Pathetic. The food at Ashoka is excellent. It really tastes as though it were made in India. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for some authentic Indian food. They have wonderful service too. Their waiters are all very helpful, and the people at the hostess desk are always smiling. I have been going to this restaurant since it opened in and the Troy one before that, and I just want to say those accusations made my some of the previous patrons are false. Sure they may have had a bad experience, but I highly doubt that it was as bad as they are saying. This is really a great restaurant, and missing out on an experience because a few misplaced and harsh comments would be a mistake. I would recommend this place anytime. In fact I have read many articles from food critics in the Detroit Free Press and Observer Eccentric stating how great the food was, and I would have to agree with them. more

After waiting for an hour and a half, the Biryani was the worst I have ever had, It was lumpy, lumps of rice and the onion garnish was not edible, it felt like plastic. My Son's Rava Dosa had an ANT. The ant was so well cooked, I had to practically peel it from the Dosa. The waitress told me that, the cooks won't be able to make one without us having to wait for an hour and yet, the manager asked me to pay the bill for all the other entrees. After waiting for an hour and a half, we had to leave the restaurant hungry. This was the first time in all my life I had to endure such poor quality of food and service. ASHOKA offers rottened and stale food!!! Their food is probably made once in a week and the entrees are flavorless and of the lowest quality. The resaturant is dull, suffocating with hostile environment, cheap music and dirty wine. \r \r Seating is horrible,and the noise level can be loud enough to rupture your eardrums.Food will be served after ages and 3 out of 5 times incomplete order will be served. The day we went the waiters were going all over the place and were randomly serving orders without knowing who ordered what???\r \r If you complain that you did not order what you got they will mock at you. You talk to the front desk manager who happens to be an Indian girl (with the delusions that she is britney spears) she wont pay attention because she is too busy playing video games on her apple laptop.\r \r ASHOKA is the worst place for any occasion or everyday dining. lady at front desk acts like we are being a pain when asked to be seated. she was all attitude until an amercian showed up and then she was all smiles.\r shame on indian attitude towards other indians!!!! i've seen this far too many times in this country. the only people discriminating against indians here are the other indians here!!\r \r Pros: was not bad before.. They have the best peas and cheese I've ever eaten. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is also incredible. I highly recommend dinner. The service has always been outstanding when I've been there and I've never had a problem with my bill and I've been going there for 5 years. The lunch buffet is just okay. I wish they would the Chicken Tikka Masala or Mutter Paneer on the buffet every time, or at least one or the other. more

The food is excellent and there is no doubt about it. I appreciate the hard work behind that.\r \r But always make sure that the amount reflected on the statement is same as that you paid. I was recently chargesd a dollar more at this place. This is a trick that is played on the customers these days especially by the restaurants where we even forget how much we paid initially after a few days.
