AMAZING 1/13/2011

We had a private building that had great peaked ceilings and it was very clean. We had a kitchen and large bathroom and it was very quiet. We joined a tour that the lodge offered to the top of Mauna Kea (which was AMAZING!). The location is close to the airport and it was very affordable. Much better than any hostel I've stayed in for a similar price. more

Very nice 1/6/2011

This was very nice. The owner also arranges tour groups to island sites, such as Volcano Nat' Park. The bike rentals are on site and easy. The great swimming beaches are blocks away. more

Love How The Locals Gave Us Some Tips 1/4/2011

We were there long enough to make friends with the staff, which was kind of good. They gave us local tips and they can be fun to drink with. ;p more

Seriously, Robert's knowledge and passion for what he does is what made the tour for us. more

Felt Like An Ohana 12/23/2010

He made the group feel like Ohana (family). Ikaika was knowledgable in Hawaiiana and shared a lot of fact with the group. He made the tour fun and I highly recommend this tour. more

Affordable 12/17/2010

The location is close to the airport and it was very affordable. Much better than any hostel I've stayed in for a similar price. more

Good Value! 11/29/2010

This place was good value and they have everything you need. We stayed in a deluxe room which had nice firm mattresses - something rare in a hostel- anyway i slept really well. The location was not bad....you can rent bikes and visit the beach nearby. We also took their tour to the Mauna Kea telescopes. Our tour guide was Eldridge - who was most informative. He knew a lot about the area, history, geology, astronomy etc. He took great care of us. more

Excellent for the budget traveler 11/23/2010

Excellent for the budget traveller that is just going to sleep in the room and spend the rest of their time exploring the island. more

Very nice! 11/16/2010

This was a very nice hostel. The owner also arranges tour groups to island sites, such as Volcano Nat' Park. The bike rentals are on site and easy. The great swimming beaches are blocks away. The hostel is 3 miles from town, but there is a free bus and renting a bike is fun. I would stay here again. more

Excellent for the budget traveler 10/22/2010

Excellent for the budget traveler that is just going to sleep in the room and spend the rest of their time exploring the island. My sister and I stayed here about 5 years ago. We took two of the tours - one hiking about 8 miles over lava and the Mauna Kea sunset tour. The tours were well run and also no frills. Stay here if you get your kicks from the beautiful weather and nature and are just looking for a place to crash. Also, a good way to meet folks to make your experience more lively. -Marina N. more

Aloha 10/7/2010

We stayed in a semi-private room, which shares a bathroom with one other room. It was clean and comfortable -- perfect if you just need a place to sleep and shower. The staff was a mixed bag -- one guy was extremely friendly and helpful, two others seemed to have lost their sense of aloha. more

Inexpensive 10/5/2010

Arnott's Lodge & Hiking Adventures offers a dormitory bunk, and semi-private rooms with a shared bath, kitchen and living room for very low prices. They also offer inexpensive hiking and snorkeling excursions in the Hilo area. more

Excellent guide 9/27/2010

I had a great time staying at Arnott's Lodge. Arthur (our tour guide) to the Lava was a excellence guide. The Lodge's common area was a great place to meet and talk with the other travelers. The DVD's movie room was a nice place to wind down during the evening. more

Breathtaking 9/23/2010

The staff was wonderful!! The tours to Volcanoes Park and Mauna Kea were breathtaking. Rental bikes really came in handy for a ride downtown. Movie theater was fantastic! more

Helpful staff 9/16/2010

Although plenty of young people across the drive in the tent/dorm area, we heard no noise from them at all. Helpful staff with laundrette and internet access on site. more
