Best Place to eat! 1/29/2008

This is the best hibachi steakhouse on the east coast! I go there every year for my birthday. The prices are the same as any other hibachi steakhouse but it is so worth it! The chefs go out of there ways to put a smile on everyones face. They do a lot more then just cook. The chefs have alot of funny jokes such as when they roll the egg across the wak they call it egg roll, when they air out the steam they say holy smokes, and my favorite one is when they toss the butter on the wak and say butter fly. Arirang gives you a dining card for when you spend up to $325.00 you get a free $25.00 comp for free. I know $325 sounds like alot but it will add up before you know it and and it's free. You can't go wrong! more

Buttah FLY! 3/22/2006

You cannot not love this place. I've been going to Arirang since I was a teenager. Located in Great Kills, it's a fun place for all ages. It has what comes close to authentic Japanese decor. I'm not sure that all Asian employees are Japanese though. The servers kimonos are always beautiful. You can choose Hibachi or a regular table. Although, unless you're going for sushi, I'm not sure why you wouldn't sit at a Hibachi table. Parties of all sizes are seated at one table as I believe there are up to 10 seats available per table. Once seated, there are a variety of choices of appetizer including soups and sushi items. For Hibachi, there are many items including beef, seafood, chicken or vegetarian. Fried rice can be made without egg (big plus for vegans). Antics always ensue. The chefs are usually well trained in Hibachi methods and bring their own personality to the table. They often toss food around, whether it's into their own hats or someone's mouth, it makes for a very entertaining time. The heart shaped rice beat is always a favorite. For dessert, skip what comes with the meal and get the fried ice cream! You will not regret it. If you're going to kill your diet, go all the way! more

Dissapointing 11/12/2005

The theatrical part of the bit was nice, but the food tasted very bland, and made me sick afterward. The prices were also quite high, and the atmosphere was cramped and unwelcoming. My 4 person family was seated in a corner of a 15 seater table, and we couldn't even see each other. The grill on the table was wiped over and over with the same dirty cloth, and the food was cold by the time we got it (especially the rice which was placed on the table for 15 minutes before the rest of our food was served. For a better Hibachi or BBQ experience, I suggest Korean BBQ restaurant Kum Gan San (34th St in manhattan) or Miyoko (Forest Ave, Staten Island) more

Franchise uniformity at its best 8/30/2005

I have been visiting these establishments for a few years. I have been to four of them in NY and NJ. They are pretty standard in their food prep and how good it is. They have recently lowered their entree prices, however the food is still very good. It might be a bit bland for some people, but at the hibachi the food is spiced to your liking. The hibachi show is adequate and the food is very good at least. I suggest the Hibachi Salmon...See you there. more

Bonsai! 8/16/2005

Arirang is an incredible Japanese restaurant in the great kills area. It is a hibachi restaurant so the chefs prepare your dinner right in front of you! Many people go there for birthdays and other celebrations. They have the option of purchasing a cake for bitthdays and the staff will come over and sing to you. They take your picture and give you a mug to remember the occasion. more
