I consulted Dr. Arbes for foot pain. He didn't take time to listen to me explain where the pain was! Nor did he look at my orthotics. He just took Xrays, said I had arthritis, and loaded up a hypodermic full of cortisone while he talked to me with his back turned. Since the idea of arthritis was new to me (I'm pretty young), I wanted a few seconds to consider and he got impatient. So I declined the shot and said I'd prefer trying physical therapy first. He agreed to refer me but said haughtily, ""the shot is simpler.""
After PT evaluation, the therapist said the location and symptoms of pain weren't consistent with arthritis, and doubted that caused the pain. He did ultrasound on my foot, reducing pain by half immediately. I'm now doing exercises and recovering quickly. I'd rather learn to manage pain than get shots.
