I am the mother of a child that is in the headstart program. I am very disappointed in the rules of this program. They push family involvment, but won't let siblings come to parent involvement days. Some of us don't have the luxuary of finding a babysitter for the siblings. They said other children who are not enrolled are a liability according to their insurance. What about a waiver that parents can sign? Also, no parties? What is up with this ridiculous rule? The rule is absolutley no candy. Shouldn't that be up to the parents to decide. After all they are our children NOT YOURS! I would not recommend any parent put their children in this program. I regret putting my child and foster child in this program. It seems like to me it is nothing but a daycare center that the government is paying for. If your county offers Preschool, I highly recommend putting your child in it. I regret that I did not put my children in preschool when I had the chance. The rules should be revamped according the reality of life. Most of us do have other children. Most of these children are on the poverty level so how can they afford daycare or pay a babysitter. Take off your blinders Appalachian Headstart and face reality!
