Missed Dearly! 6/26/2008

In a town facinated with all things foodie, Apotheke offered PDX a truly unique experience. This place will be greatly missed. Not only was I treated with outstanding service, the servers were always very patient, friendly and knowledgeable, but there is really nothing else like it in town. Elaborate mixed drinks can be found all over town, but there was something so refreshing in the simplicity of Apotheke. Drinking was more than a pleasure it was also entertaining. I loved picking out flights of aperitifs and digestifs. I would normally pick one or two that I was curious about, and the server would pick a few drinks that would complement my selections. I'd been here several times, and I never once felt that the people were snobby, as one reviewer claims. I pray that they reopen! I'll be back if they do! Pros: Unique, Delicious, Beautiful! more

great spot, but it's gone! 1/27/2008

Apotheka was so cool... but it is gone. I heard that they were going to open a new spot. Pros: it was great Cons: but it is no longer on 1314 NW Glisan... where did it go? more

I heard it was good ... I guess just not good enough to remain in business ... 10/12/2007

My wife went here with some friends a while back ... said they crushed herbs and stuff into the drinks. But, alas ... they WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. Serves 'em right if they were as snobby as some of these reviewers lead us to believe. more

um, what's the big deal? 9/7/2007

It must be the yuppies from california and repressed, small-town hipsters that think this place is heaven. Who wants to eat over priced snack food while some egoist with a mac makes you go deaf with his ""homemade"" music? The snacks are what you'd probably find in your fridge late at night so skip this place unless you enjoy sterile white walls and people who think they are really cooler than you. more

Great if you like drinking in an empty bar... 8/13/2007

We went to Apotheke on a Friday night and it was deserted. Also the drink menu, while long, wasn't terribly exotic. Where was the Turkish Pepper? Or non-Aalborg Aquavit? Humph. Pros: Bartender seemed knowledgable Cons: Dated design, disappointed selection, empty bar! more

it makes me think of that rob thomas song, you know, with the white lights... 8/12/2007

Apotheke is a beautiful white space, just upstairs from Andina. The staff is really knowledgeable about all of the wines, beers, and liquor and is happy to make suggestions. I love that they give you a syllubus with the menu, explaining their concept when you come in. Pros: service Cons: parking, but that's not really their fault more

Eh 8/1/2007

They have some really interesting booze. Pros: Rare and interesting liquor Cons: Everything else more

Hipster nonsense, slacker service; decent food 7/9/2007

Maybe reviewers who love APOTHEKE so much have no idea what a decent dining experience is? Pros: food, decor Cons: service, value more

Pretty, but pretensious and slooooooow 6/28/2007

My experience with the service was very similar to benstein's. I almost chewed my arm off waiting for the food, which tends to put a person in a foul mood. Then the portions were so incredibly small we had to go somewhere else and eat again. The bartender was nice. What was most striking is that this place refuses to mix any drinks whatsoever. They just pour booze in the glass and hand it to you at eight bucks and up. They say their goal is to get people to experience their liquors in their unadulterated state. They make the mistake of assuming everyone wants or needs their pedantry. Thanks anyway, I know what Aviation Gin tastes like by itself, I actually, really just like it better with an additional ingredient. The DJ was playing freaky minimalist techno and it was just too much. It's a neat looking place though. Pros: Good-tasting food, space age decor Cons: slow service, bad music, pricey more

TERRIBLE SLOW SERVICE as is typical in Portland 5/5/2007

I've been here twice. Both times were beyond disappointing Pros: good food, nice interior Cons: horrible, painfully slow service more

The bar that you'll find in Heaven 3/31/2007

This is hands down the best bar in Portland. Without a doubt the only place that can say what it is doing is truly unique. If you're an adventurous punter and don't expect to drink cosmos, than you'll love this place. Great music tops it off. Pros: Very unusual libations Cons: Wish the menu would change more frequently more

Great Grub and Grog 2/1/2007

Apotheke's grub and grog was worth the three hour road trip. Being an avid eater of wild game, I chose the Westmalle Stew. It was tender and filling. Excellent choice and cheap to boot. My wife had the frog legs...finger licking good. My friend had the wurst and kraut. Tasty! We splurged and had the pear and star Anise bread pudding with some apple brandy. Amen to that. more

Must Experience This Gem for Yourself! 5/26/2006

This is a must-visit location in the Pearl District. The potat/fries are absolutely out of this world and makes my mouth water just thinking about them. All of the dishes are unique and yummy. I left feeling tranquil yet energized...and educated - all of their liquors are carefully described in a menu. The most outstanding aspect of Apotheke is the amazing ambience and decor. Glacial, sharp, and ultra-modern, the interior design is cohesive and mesmerizing! Can't say enough good things about this spot! The music is fantastic and the service is very well-informed and down to earth. Don't miss out on experiencing all the uniqueness this great locale has to offer. Pros: Ambience, Value, Great Staff Cons: On 2nd Floor more

I wish I could live at Apotheke 4/17/2006

This is a local hideaway that is a great place for first Thursday time outs. Kids are welcome before 9pm. Very chill. Pros: food, beer, music Cons: needs more advertisin more

Mellow and Comfortable 3/29/2006

I enjoyed Apotheke thoroughly. It is mellow, has great music, the food is good, the drinks are good/rare and the staff personality is fantastic. I personally enjoy the hidden spots of Portland and this one is definitely hidden. It is rarely packed, because it is so new and many people just haven't heard of it. I also enjoyed the brighter bar atmosphere it portrayed and quite simply, this lounge is very pleasant. Pros: Mellow, Music, Hidden more

Where to go for unique, interesting liquors 3/27/2006

My wife and I came here because it promised Scandinavian food, and we'd just had a nice trip to Scandinavia. While the food was indeed tasty and Scandinavian (love me some gravlax!), it's the atmosphere and the drinks that are so amazing here. Every herbal liquor I've ever heard of and then some are offered on the menu, along with lengthy descriptions to read while you sip. The design here is impressively stark and modern, and yet I didn't find it intimidating or hipper-than-thou. Maybe it's the nice service that puts such a friendly face on the place. Pros: Unique liquors, Modern decor, Friendly service Cons: Not obvious location more

Perfect. 3/17/2006

Now my favorite night spot in Portland, I've been to many. No need to review. Go see for yourself. Pros: Pristine/Clear, Comfort/Warmth, Experimental/Future more
