Apex Aquariums

I have gone to this store multiple times over the years and each time I wish I had not. It is usually desperation for some small item that I need immediately which drives me to go to this store. The store is badly maintained- always dark and musty. Fish look sick and *are* sick, the stock is poor quality. I purchased some fish because honestly, I just felt really sorry for them, and although I quarantined them and treated them, 3 died. I have never lost fish like that. Everything is generally overpriced by 50-70%. You do get the dirt and grime covering every item for free though. I always have the impression that they are about to go out of business and are trying to leech every last cent from the few customers naive or desperate enough to shop there. One time there was a bucket full of floating plants that they were obviously going to trash. I merely asked what they were and they immediately tried to sell a tiny bit of it to me for $3. You could see the dollar signs lighting up in their eyes. Most stores would gladly give these sorts of things as freebies and win devoted lifelong customers through small acts of generosity, but not this store. I will probably grudgingly go back to this store in the next year or two if they are still around, but I will hate myself afterwards. This is a perfect example of why people are shopping online for everything. I am happy to support local businesses, but this is not one. more

I recently was on a mission to find some items for my boss, I must have visited 9 stores in LA that day. Apex was the first to actually intrigue me enough to get my own setup! Their friendly sales staff helped me out from A to Z! Explaining everything in detail. They have great prices and fast service. I bought 5 new fish in this aquaruim 3 weeks ago. The following day 1 of new fish died. The day after that all the fish died including the 6 fish I originally had in my tank (I've had them for over a year and they were perfectly fine). \r The funny thing is none of the dead fish were floating the way most fish float when they die. They sunk straight to the bottom of my aquaruim. I do believe either they sold me some sick fish or they have some very unsanitary water at Apex Aquaruim which got mixed with the water at my aquaruim and caused this.\r I went back to let the owner know that happen (mostly because the day I bought the fish, some man was complaining that all his fish died after he added the fish from Apex Aquaruim to the tank) but the man who helped us the day of the purchase could care less. \r He basically told me he's not responsible for what happen and that ""fish die"". I told him I understand they are very delicate creatures and have a rather short life span. I also told him that I understand that when introducing new fish to a tank you run the rish of loosing a couple but not 11 fish all at once!!! ""I make fish die all the time"" is what he said.\r I had a very bad experience at this Aquaruim and strongly urge anyone who cares about fish to find a better/cleaner/more ethical aquaruim to shop at. more
