Fabulous, Kid Friendly Restaurant 1/8/2010

We went to Antica Roma tonight for the first time. Did not have any expectations but liked the simplicity of the kids menu before we arrived. Much to our surprise...we have one of the best dining experiences we have had in Boulder in 15 years. I have to start with the service...unbelievable. We arrived early so we had the choice of tables and my kids picked the table by the fountain. I was a little nervous as I know anything can be a distraction and we were hoping to enjoy our meal. To my surprise we sat down, the server actually invited my children over to the fountain, gave them each a coin, and taught them how to turn around, make a wish, and toss in the coin. Who does that? this was after she quickly took our drink order, spoke directly to my kids, and offered them the best hot chocolate we have tasted in a long time. she made sure it wasn't too hot and gave them the option to eat the whip cream with a spoon or put the kid friendly lid on it and drink with a straw. Luckily it was a slightly too hot for them and we could save it for after dinner. The kids meals arrived super fast..and they loved them. We have a hard time finding food they will eat out...and again to my surprise...they LOVED their food. Especially the pizza. In the meantime our server organized our apps & dinner to perfectly sinc with our wine and the kids fast frenzy. When the kids were done eating the host brought over crayons and coloring pages (even split the crayons up for the kids) so we could finish our meals. Who does that? With just a sip left in our wine, she offered us dessert and the kids loved the gelato. who new...super smooth gelato with whip cream and strawberries kept them happy another 15 minutes. Truly a lovely experience...and truly unexpected. We will go back again and again. I could go on and on...the carpaccio was amazing, the sausage/gnocci (sp?) special was fabulous, the margherita pizza to die for. All the while the service was soooo above my expectations I truly can not comment enough. Fabulous presentation. A must. Enjoy! Pros: BEST Pizza. Cons: Can't think of one more

Italian anytime! 8/4/2009

I went to Antica Roma for the first time with a group of friends for lunch. We ordered several appetizers and I enjoyed every single one of them. From the bread and dip to the calamari, Antica Roma put a uniquely Italian twist to each item on their menu. I ordered the chicken panini for lunch and could only eat half of the generous portion. I am not a huge fan of Italian food, but the ingredients were fresh, and nothing was too heavy for a mid-day meal. We finished the meal off with desert, which again were delicious. The crepes, homemade gelato, and tiramisu were a sweet way to end a delicious meal. Antica Roma was a great place for a meal with a group of friends, and also as a date night place. I am definitely looking forward to my next visit! Pros: Great service, delicious food more

Delicious Italian food with great people-watching 7/23/2009

I just tried Antica Roma for the first time and had a delightful experience. I went for lunch with a group of friends and was charmed by both the atmosphere (right on the Pearl St. Mall! Semi-open-air seating!) and the staff (knowledgeable, friendly, attentive). I had the Frutti di Mare pasta, and I thought it was phenomenal. The sauce was flavorful but did not overpower the tasty seafood. The complimentary bread and dipping sauces were also excellent, and the portion size was big enough that I was able to take some of my entrée home to enjoy again at dinner. I would highly recommend a visit to Antica Roma – I plan to return soon! Pros: Tasty, varied menu and great atmosphere more

Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Great Service 7/22/2009

Antica Roma is in an ideal location on the Pearl Street Mall. The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful. You feel like you are eating in a cozy bistro in a small Italian village. The food and service was wonderful. Our group was served delicious tapas recommended by the waiter. Entree portions were very generous and delicious. We ended up sharing our entrees because they were all so good. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the paninis were wonderful. We finished the meal with delicious coffee and tiramisu and crepes. I cant wait to go back. If you are in Boulder and looking for wonderful Italain food at a wonderful price, you need to try Antica Roma. You wont be disappontined! Pros: delicious, authentic italian food more

Disappointing 9/8/2008

Went there for their ""lunch"" buffet. The place was dirty. Buffet selection was VERY limited, consisting of a few salads that tasted very similar and reminded me of dorm dining hall food. If this is the quality of their dinners too, then the prices seem overly high. more

Avoid this place completely 7/8/2008

Way overpriced for what shows up at the table. Really bad management that enjoys arguing and defending the difference between the menu and what shows up at the table. Food is cafeteria quality at best. An employee must writing the raving reviews because this place is not even close. In addition the facility is completely dirty and unclean. We used to like the Louisville Antica Roma, but it closed down. Something is really wrong with this restaurant and my suggestion is to select one of the other great restaurants on the Pearl Street Mall, but avoid this one completely! Pros: Location and ambience Cons: Poor food quality more

Best pasta and pizzas 10/19/2007

I really enjoyed Antica Roma, especially during my last visit with my family. The service was very attentive and the food arrived in a timely fashion, as I would expect (Pizza and the entrees arrived all toghether, where at the Med they arrive at different times) Pizza was very good and I reccomend the one with fresh arugula, Parma prosciutto and fresh tomatoes) Excellent!! Try the Pasta with seafood !!\r The choice of tapas is very good and we had 4 of them and we all liked them. Desserts are also very good. We had tiramisu' and mousse chocolate. I have seen it very busy and with several large parties. Pros: Ambiance, authentic Italian Food Cons: Parking more

extremely poor management 7/22/2007

this place is really bad!! run by a bunch of ignorant kids who know nothing of customer relations.\r they also know nothing of Italian cuisine, and don't mind being pushy about their ignorance.\r ignore this place. Pros: on pearl Cons: it attempts to compete in boulder more

bad food experience 7/2/2007

we ordered 2 paninis, expecting panini bread and lots of stuff inside. It was Quizzinos sub quality! It wasn't even on panini bread! My sandwich was cold (even though it's suppose to be hot!), cheese didn't melt at all, the oil was dripping out of it. Chicken parm sandwich was ok, but it is not worht the price! \r Stuff was ok. But I don't think I will come back more

Not the best value 9/1/2006

I had dinner with some friends the other night at Antica Roma for the first time. For their prices, I expected a lot better cuisine. The dish that I ordered was described as handmade pasta, but I swear that it was not. It really was no better than something that I can get at the Noodles & Company (which is pretty good). For the price of the dish, it really should have been more spectacular. The other people at the table were somewhat disappointed with their food as well. more

OK in a pinch 8/26/2006

The appetizers and pizza were good but he service was awful. They were trying to accomodate way too many tables in the front/outdoor area. Didn't work well, everyone around us was not happy with the service they got, it was obvious. \r \r We were about to get up and walk out when a waitress finally noticed us. She managed to get us our food in a timley manner, but it was only apps and pizza so it was not too difficult. We aksed for oil twice but never got it. Though the table next to us didn;t get bread (they ran out) so we were just happy to have our bread. Pros: appetizers Cons: service more

Mediocre Dinner, Probably Good for Quick Apps Though 8/20/2006

I wanted to take my girlfriend out to a nice Italian dinner with some good wine. Mediocre was more like it. \r \r I looked at their website and Ive even walked by it many times and have always noticed a good business. Antica Roma also boasts a wine cellar Award of Excellence 97 to 04 from the Wine Spectator.\r \r I called at 3:30pm to see if they had availability for two. What I got was a rushed woman & Ya, sure come in attitude, who had barely enough time to take my name.\r \r Upon arrival we were graciously greeted and seated promptly. Ambiance is a nice rustic Italian. Unfortunately this is where they become mediocre, but before I get to the grilling I do want to mention the wait staff was quite good and attentive. Now for the grilling, my first wine selection was brought out. Wrong year. Next selection, they didnt have. Finally they brought out a suggestion, I accepted just to relinquish the waitress from the embarrassment. The food was mediocre as well. I selected the squash ravioli. The squash was bland, the sauce was bland and everything was barely warm. My girlfriend selected the seared tuna that was drenched in olive oil.\r \r Onto dessert; my girlfriend selected the gelato, which was obviously old with all the ice crystals. I selected the Creme de Carmel. It was very good if someone wanted Orange Creme de Carmel. Now maybe I missed that important tidbit when I ordered it, but Im fairly certain it wasnt. Maybe someone can confirm?\r \r Bottom line, go for the appetizers or the pizza. Pros: Good selection of Apps; Good Ambiance Cons: Wine List Not Current; Tables too Small more

Don't waste your time and money! 7/10/2006

Have lived/worked in Boulder for 10 years. Antica Roma has really gone downhill as evidenced by our recent dinner for 8. While the menu reads as wonderfully authentic, creative, and extensive, every dish was sub-par quality and closer to that of a fast-food type Italian restaurant. Except for the price unfortunately! Ambiance in and out is good and the outside patio is a great people-watching spot in Boulder, but save yourself lots of money and just have a glass of wine there before going to one of the many other fabulous Boulder eateries! Pros: Location, outdoor seating & lighting Cons: Everything else! more

worth a try 10/23/2005

I ate there recently with my family (kids, grandkids) and the staff was very tolerant of my toddler grandson. The setting was ambient, the lighting perfect and the food was above average. The pasta was perfectly prepared and the sauces were interesting. It was priced appropriately. The only downer was the service, long wait just to get a bottle of wine, waiter was a real amateur. The food came out at different times for each member of our party, salads were delivered one at a time. But, it was worth putting up with and we had a nice evening with family and good food in a nice environment for dining. We would go back. more

Change of Opinion 7/2/2003

Antica Roma used to be my favorite place in Boulder, not just Italian, but my absolute favorite. But time and things seems to have changed. My past few experiences there have been quite negative. I can understand a bad night for anyone but I feel that enough is enough. The service I experienced was at an all time low. The servers and hostess had bad attitudes towards the group I was with and others in the restaurant. Which totally ruined the feel for the place. Olive Garden seems more comfortable then there. The food quality has also seemed to suffer. Not only the pasta was under cooked but so was the chicken. Pros: Location Cons: Service, Undercooked Food more

Delicious! 9/25/2002

Visited the Roma only by the thought of dinner on the patio along the outdoor mall, but the food was spectacular! A long time resident of Boulder, I can't belive I didn't try this sooner. Between the wine list, the live music, and the absolutely wonderful food, Antica Roma IS Italian food in Boulder. Pros: Food, Bar/Wine List, Friendly Cons: Lighting too Dim more

This place is great!!! 9/25/2002

What a wonderful experiance. Great food, excelent service and spactacular service. Pros: Service, Food, Wine more

Very romantic 9/24/2002

Very friendly service. Excellent wine list, the best for Italian wines in the area. The food is not at the Italian standards in Italy, but is the best you can find in the area. Very cozy bar. Pros: Ambience, Live music some days, Ravioli,Chicken Parm more

Awful 6/16/2002

The food is not good. The service is fair on a good night. Antica Roma wasn't good six years ago when I first dined there and it isn't good now either. Cons: Food, Food, Food more
