Pleasantly Surprised 2/15/2009

My husband and I found a last minute babysitter last night (Valentines Day) and decided we had only enough time to see a movie, a much needed break away from the kids! We bought our tickets at the AMC but had an hour to wait and we were hungry! We walked around the strip mall and saw Antica and a soup plantation, antica it is we said. We got inside and were a little put off when we saw a heat lamp and some not so fresh looking food...uh oh we thought. We get escorted to the dinning area and are surpised by the nice warm decor and polite staff. We sat down thinking since it was Valentines, we would have to pick off a pre-fab menu of only a few items, wrong. We picked from the menu and waited (kinda long) for our food. Out came our meals piping hot and delicious. I had the gnocci and my husband had the chicken marsala. He (who is very picky) was very satisfied with his food. I liked mine as well. I would recommend this place because 1. its tasty and 2.its a casual place with a nice environment and 3. they have a friendly staff. I was also thankful that we didnt need to worry about the reservation on one of the busiest nights out. We didnt have to wait to be seated and another plus was they wrap your food up for you to go. I cant tell you how much I hate places that throw you a box to pack it up yourself. I would recommend however, that they get rid of that heat lamp case in front, Im not sure what it was for and I know our food wasnt under it...its a little off putting. Thanks Antica, we'll be back! Pros: Ample parking, nice staff, good food, fair prices, casual but nice setting Cons: heat lamp display case in front as you walk in. more

Awesome 1/13/2009

Love their pepperoni here. Veggie pizza is phonomenal also. This place has great service most importantly more

Just coasting on old reveiws - food is longer worth the attitude. 6/23/2008

I have enjoyed the food here for years, since Antica first opened. But the service has gotten progressively worse over the years, as has the food. The waiters and managers are always in a bad mood. Somehow the only people that understand the concept of customer service are the hostesses. Pros: Food used to be good, maybe will improve in future. Cons: Bad service, rude manager, food not worth the price or attitude. more

Fake fancy with awful meatballs, pizza, pasta, etc. 3/14/2008

These guys put up a facade of authentic Italian. Let me tell you something and lean in real close: FRAUDS! The meatballs will remind of your childhood days slopping up Spaghetti O-s. Uh-oh is right. Grab a Zantac, STAT! Cheese that melts like hot tasteless rubber is bad for you. The sauce clearly comes straight out of a large can. Would love to have a hidden camera record these guys prepare the vast vats of food that seem appealing enough at first sight, on the other side of the counter, but when the stuff goes down, ugh. As with many, many restaurants today, these guys are using inferior, low-cost, indigestion-inducing ingredients for quality products. Shameful. Cons: All of the food more

Great pizza but service is terrible. 5/26/2007

I used to order from this place all the time. Their napoletana pizza and walnut & gorgonzola salad were great and I don't recall having problems with the service until recently. Pros: Good traditional neopolitan pizza. Calamari is crispy and tasty. Cons: Service in restaurant it slow. Ordering and waiting for delivery is an exercise in patience. more

real pizza 11/14/2006

If you're looking for a hearty filling pizza , look elsewhere, I suggest Bucca de Beppe ,another place I like. Pros: food, service more

Best pizza and casual Italian around 7/14/2006

The pizza at this place ROCKS!! It is authentic Neopolitan pizza and the pizza maker is certified from Italy. Nice thin crust, great cheese and tomato toppings. Get the margharita or four cheeses. Other food excellent also. Try the seafood specials. Prices for wine are fair; not huge mark-up. Same with beer. Nice patio, never so crowded that you can't get a table, even on a Friday night. A real find!! Pros: GREAT PIZZA, good prices on wine and beer, casual with great food!! more

Typical L.A. pizza 4/9/2006

Let's be completely honest. In L.A., the people making the pizzas do not know what pizza is supposed to taste like. That is no different at Antica. Whatever entity has ""certified"" Antica should de-certify it. The pizza was below average. The type you might get at the airport. The appetizers were not bad. The service was not inattentive, but not at all friendly. We felt like we were on a conveyer belt getting processed. I want to communicate to the owners: Get someone in the kitchen who knows what a pizza is supposed to taste like. Not necessarily someone Italian, but at least someone American. Pros: Appetizers, Location, Locasion Cons: Pizza, Service, Lighting more

Shoud be called Attica pizza... 2/14/2006

...because the waitsaff was about as friendly as you'd expect in the prison. As for the pizza, it's thin and wimpy and doesn't leave a lasting impression, except on your checkbook. more

good pizza but slow delivery 1/2/2006

we recently ordered for delivery and although the food was good, it was no longer hot. we'll probably try dining in instead of ordering for delivery. we ordered the chopped salad and it was pretty good (or maybe we were just starving from the long wait). the calzone was still warm and tasted good as did the pizza capricciosa. Pros: convenient Cons: delivery time more

excellent 10/8/2005

first off, the food is amazing... brick oven pizza that rivals any pizza from NYC or Italy...the bucatini was perfectly cooked... excellent in every respect. second, the service was prompt, friendly and courteous. the staff always made us feel welcome with a nice neighborhood vibe. third, the space is very comfortable and casual... the terrace is perfectly secluded and offers a nice outdoor experience... i don't have enough good things to say about this place. don't be scared off by the strip mall location, this one is truly worth trying. Pros: food, service, price more

Mouth Watering 8/9/2005

We come here alot for dinner and the food is always fabulous. It's true about the service though. If you're a stickler for great service this isn't the place for you. Although the service was good tonight. There was only one other couple there though, so I hate to see it if it gets busy, which it never seems to. The food is really, really good though: fine ingredients, expertly prepared: they have a delicious papaya salad I always get, and the ravioli de pollo is to die for, not to mention the spaghetti carbonara, and many people rave about the homemade pizza, a nice house chianti and you're set! Pros: Fine Italian Fare, Reasonable Prices, Nice Vino Italiano Cons: Lackadaisical Service more

Just ok 8/7/2005

The pasta and risotto we ordered was just mediocre; half the mussels in the risotto were broken or closed. Had a hard time getting someone's attention for a refill, and the waiter never cracked a smile and gave us the impression that we were really taxing his patience by eating in his restaurant. Probably won't revisit this one. more

Best authentic Naples style pizza 5/20/2005

If you love Italian (Naples) pizza, this the place. If you like Domino's or Pizza Hut, you won't like Antica. This is the closest I've found to Totonno's in New York. It is genius in it's simplicity. Dough, tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella and basil in a wood fired oven are turned into a orgasmic dining experience. I think they use too much sauce so I ask them for less, then ask for extra cheese and the pizza cooked well. Never tried other dishes so I only comment on the pizza, but if the rest of the menu is prepared as well, it must be good. Prices are reasonable. A pizza margherita ( the size of a dinner plate) is $10.00. The service is fine but even if it wasn't, I'd still come back for this delicious pizza. Pros: Awesome pizza Cons: long drive from O.C. more
