We have been coming to AMI for 10 years, five of which, we stayed at the once-lovely Anna Maria Island Beach Resort. We arrived for our family's annual Thanksgiving vacation to discover our favorite place under new management ... and under construction. Without our knowledge, by the way. We had the reservation for over a year; they had plenty of time to let us know that it wouldn't be quite finished for our stay. And they had no problem taking our money. The new owners have ruined a charming, beachside hotel that used to be family friendly and had excellent service. We discovered the partially renovated hotel, with most of the outside power unfinished, no lights, no heat in the pool, the pool was closed or too cold to swim in our entire stay, no working outside shower to rinse off the sand nor a mat to wipe our feet. Limited seating for the lovely beach view as well. Our lovely, on-site manager was no longer there. The new manager was pleasant and helpful, but simply not there many of the times we needed clean towels or replacement trash bags. Heaven forbid if you lock yourself out! No beach chairs or toys to use. There were loud construction workers and smokers outside our room. Our once lovely view was blocked by ""new tiki bar."" We saw that as a sign that this was no longer going to be a family place! Nor a romantic place either! What a nightmare! It is sad to see charming, laid back AMI's reputation ruined by one establishment. Luckily we know AMI has a lot to offer elsewhere and will return. If I had been a first time visitor, I do not know if I would have come back.
