Editorial review from Citysearch 3/7/2014

I have never been treated with such rudeness and disrespect as I have been by BJ Weber and his associates! It is completely unacceptable for someone who is paid to handle your money, to flat refuse to give you an explanation on how your taxes have been filed! All I want is an explaination of my state tax return, and when I emailed and then called to try to get an explanation I've been told I can't speak to BJ, he has fufilled his part of the arrangement by filing my taxes, he will not be bothered to talk to me about my returns because it's not his responsibility. He's done everything correctly and it doesn't matter if I want to be clear on what was done.\r \r This is the first, and only, year I've used him for my taxes. I met him in Clarinda Feb 10, to go over my tax information. When asked if I was quoted a price I said I told him the girl I spoke with told me it would be between $125-$150. He thought about this for a second, made a joke about who's daughter I was and then told me it would be $225. I paid this, based on the explanation that what he was going to do was more than what was expected, even though I specifically listed each situation I was going to have to have addressed to the girl who set up the appoint. When asked when I could expect my taxes returned, he said they would be done by the following Monday. \r \r When nothing had been sent by the following Friday, I contacted the company and was told he'd have them done by the next Monday. When I still hadn't recieved them by that date, I contacted them again and was told they would be the next thing done. More than 2 weeks after the taxes had been promised, I recieved an email with my tax returns. I thought this was a little unprofessional, as all other accountants I've used returned my information and completed taxes with a professional looking folder, but it saves him money that way and I can accept that.\r \r After I had a chance to go over the returns, I had several questions for him regarding the state returns. I also noticed that my reciept for the services rendered was $125, when I had a copy of the check I'd written for $225. This proved to me this company obviously can make a mistake, or else it was a purposeful error, and therefore strengthened my resolve to get a clarification. \r \r I emailed my questions and received the response that ""Rest assured I am a PROFESSIONAL who does this for a living. I have over 700 clients and have done well beyond 6,000 tax returns in my career. I am certain that I know what I am doing."" I can appreciate that he's know's his job, but that doesn't mean that mistakes can't be made. I simply wanted an explanation of the information in my returns. Since I paid for his services, it's my right to have an explanation as to what my money is paying for.\r \r So I called his office and left a voicemail asking to make an appointment to speak with him over the phone. After several hours of no response, I called back and spoke with a woman who rudely told me they would call me when they got to it. A few hours after that, she called me back and told me that the emailed explanation was all I would get and that I could stop calling them. I asked about the receipt mistake and for a correction to be mailed to me, she said she would see if that could be done but with a tone that made it clear it would not be done. When I said that the email contained no explanation, just a message saying it was right, she said she wouldn't debate it with me and that they had done their job and would give me no further explanation, then said goodbye and hung up on me. \r \r I hope that this will serve as a warning to anyone else who wants to know more about their own taxes than ""I know what I'm doing. I don't owe you any explanation.""\r \r \r more
