I felt the need to set the record straight on this pet store. I have purchased 2 dogs from them over the past 8 years. A pug and a Domerman. Both are in perfect health. The pug is the most healtiest best looking (not over weight) pug I have ever seen (and my vet has ever seen). She is now 8 years old and has never had a single health issue. She was papered and DID NOT come from a puppy mill. The Doberman is now 2 years old and is in perfect health. He came from a breeder in Wasco (not a Puppy Mill!!) and is the best dog I have ever had. I highly recommend this store to anyone and would be confident in their puppy selection. more

CONFIRMED PUPPY MILL PUPPIES!!! 7/18/2011

I purchased a puppy from these heartless people and was assured they did not come from a puppy mill. I was told the puppies came from reputable breeders. Well I got home and researched the breeders name on my paperwork and I was shocked to find the breeder is a cold hearted puppy mill! Search for yourself ""Mark Steffensmeier"". I called the pet shop about this and they said ""this is not a puppy mill. Said he has to follow USDA standards"". USDA guidelines only require the puppies have 6 inches of room to move around and they have no limit to the number of puppies you can breed. USDA guidelines don't mean ANYTHING! This breeder has been written up in the past for not having adequate space for the dogs...too many in a cage. So the dogs had less than 6 inches of space?? He has been written up for not providing shelter in the rain and snow! For his facility smelling of pee and feces. His facilities have over 400 dogs of all breeds. Its all public record search for yourself. Animal Kingdom's response was those infractions were more than 5 years ago. Regardless, how can a self proclaimed animal loving shop purchase ANY living thing from a breeder who can keep dogs in that type of environment EVER? These breeders are only checked once every few years and the guidelines don't protect animal rights at all. We decided to keep our dog despite the fact that he may have health and behavioral issues because I figure this guy has had a hard enough life and my family has already bonded with him. Animal Kingdom should be put out of business and they are not welcome in our community!!!!! Stop these puppy mills by purchasing from actual breeders. I wish I had. They are cheaper than Animal Kingdom anyway!!!! more

Stop These People 5/2/2010

Two days after a horrible experience, they decided not to sell me the dog, as I was paying.....now after much thought, I asked too many questions and they are covering their %@*#*! This is not a business an animal lover would want to support. These people could not care less about the animals....much like human trafficing....this is animal trafficing, helpless puppies coming from shady resources pawned to those that feel attached to them....often out of impulse and pity. STOP THIS TYPE OF ANIMAL TRADING!\r These people are evil!!! They either hid, transfered or possibly even killed the puppy in question....pure evil!!\r I would have taken full responsiblity to care for and love this puppy. more

Stop Puppy Mills 6/16/2009

Please, stop buying from pet stores, it keeps cruel puppy mills in business. Rescue from shelters or buying from home breeders directly is the best way to show your love of all dogs! :-) Pros: Love Puppies? Cons: Stop Puppy Mills! more

I Love My Dog 4/13/2009

I bought my little Cockalier (Half Cocker & half Cavalier) I love her and she is like the daughter I dont have. She has had NO medical problems and is a healthy as can be, when i bought her 3 years ago I thought I was crazy for paying $800 for a dog but I would have paid more knowing her now. I dont like how the puppies are kept in small cages and not loved and cuddles more but I have worked in a pet store before so i know who things can get crazy when people are around, Im sure the staff take good care of them when things quitet down in the evenings. I dont agree with puppy mills AT ALL but my dog came from a local breeder. Ask to see the paperwork for a puppy in there they should let you see where it came from. Also the store has always been clean when i have gone in there they few times that i have. However my dog did not want to go in the store when i took here there, she acted afraid, so i dont know what to say about that. Pros: My dog is awsome Cons: Animals in small cages more

average pet store 9/22/2008

The pet store is the same as everyother one that we stroll through. All the puppies are locked in small cages but it isnt any different than any other pet store i have been to. Unlike the other complaining customers I have had a good experience with my Blue Merle Australian Sheppard I purchased there two years ago. Both his parents were registered and he came with papers. He came with a vet check which he passed and micro-chipped. He also came with a cirtificate to spend a certain amount on him at petsmart. He is like another member of the family and has a personality that makes everyone smile. He is easy going and the first time I took him out with no leash he never left my side. He is easy to train and extremly willing to please. I paid $800 for him which i thought was crazy at the time but a family friend raises Aussies and sells them for atleast $900. I may not like the place but im extremly happy with my dog. Pros: got a great dog Cons: Teenagers were the most knowledgeable more

Animal Kingdom Supports Puppy Mills 8/16/2008

This pet shop, both locations are HORRID! Theres one on Grand ave. in Arroyo Grande also. Same owner. Out of pure pitty I bought a Papillon pup from them 7 years ago. This poor dog has been diagnosed with bladder stones, grand mal seizures, thyroid problems, and the list continues. We have spent over 17 thousand dollars on Vet bills, including two surgeries to save his life. Yes, I said 17 K ! I know many people in the county who also have purchased ""lemon"" animals there. Everyone of them have either had severe medical problems or have died from PARVO. They do, on rare occasions, buy pups locally, but most have come from puppy mills, such as the Hunte Corp. Do your reach people before you buy any animal from any Pet Shop. Talk to local Vets and ask their opinions. Most Vets will give you an honest answer. Check with the Better Business Office and go to local dog parks and ask around about Animal Kingdom. It onlys takes a few clicks to do the RESEARCH. Isn't it worth your pets life, not to mention your bank account to research before you buy? You can stop them from selling animals IF YOU DON'T BUY FROM THEM. Its supply and demand. Pet shops prey on the ""PITTY FACTOR"". Don't be a buyer from PITTY! As far as the quality of employees they hire: Most are inexpierenced kids who really don't know specific breeds, feeding habbits, and sure as hell don't know about clean conditions! Most of the employees they hire can't tell you what food they feed or if/when they are current on vaccinations! Once again, DO YOUR RESEARCH! Cons: Read the description more

animal prison 5/24/2008

I have also been to this pet store and witnessed firsthand the ANIMAL ABUSE that goes on here. These dogs had no history of breeders and the people that worked there are clueless. To me it seemed that they have no regard for living beings and treat them as such that they were random objects on a shelf. It is sad that I fell upon this store knowing that there are probably stores like this all over. They should all be shut down, including this store!\r \r These people do not even take the animals on walks. I will never step foot in that miserable place again unless it is to picket them. Pros: nothing Cons: anything that should be humane more

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! 5/24/2008

DO NOT SHOP AT THIS PET STORE! Animal cruelty abounds. There was a very large 4 month old puppy in a glass ""tank"" barely large enough for it to stand in. It was very hot and the dog was panting alot. It had no toys or anything to chew on. Even worse, the woman that worked there told me the dog had NEVER been outside! EVER! A 4 month old puppy had never had a walk or ran outside? She said because it didn't have it's shots. A dog that age should be socialized and exercised. THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE! THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN! Clearly a puppy mill scam as the rest of the reviews say. No papers, no guarantees. I couldn't even get a business card. If you live in Pismo or Grover Beach or anywhere near, I would picket and protest this store. Someone should help these poor animals. Find a reputeable breeder or better yet, adopt from a shelter. ANIMAL KINGDOM SHOULD BE CALLED ANIMAL PRISON. Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE Cons: ANIMAL ABUSE more

Don't support puppy mills 2/19/2008

I would recommend that nobody purchase a puppy from this store. I purchased my yellow labrador retriever from this store five years ago and she has had an assortment of health issues on top of extremely high levels of anxiety.\r \r On the paperwork that the store provided me during purchase, it says she came from a supplier in Missouri named the Hunte Corporation. I later found out that the Hunte Corporation is a puppy mill -- ""Puppy mills, loosely defined, are breeders who regularly supply dogs to laboratories, animal brokers or pet shops."" This particular puppy mill is the largest puppy broker in the U.S.\r \r I love my dog and would never regret having her in my life. I do however regret supporting this puppy mill entity. I recommend that if you want to buy a puppy, contact a local breeder, otherwise adopt from your local shelter. Cons: Everything more

Overpriced and No Papers 2/18/2008

I would not recommend this pet store to anyone. There are no papers for your animals, which will not be clearly explained to you when you buy it. The parents of the animals are not registerable and they are priced way too high to not have papers. $800 dollars for a boxer dog with no papers. Full bred boxers go in the paper around here for $200 without papers. Save yourself the money and do not go to this pet shop. There are way better pet shops located in other areas. Pros: Don't go there...waste of money Cons: Everything. more
