Yes, it was expensive (x-rays, blood tests for us, plus the $65 office visit for almost $350 total), but the tests weren't that much more than my local vet. The staff were VERY kind and helpful and I didn't get any grief over wanting to take him home or go back to my regular vet. In a real emergency, I wouldn't hesitate to go back.\r

What bothers me more is the 20-30 minute drive to a vet I've never seen before - in England vets have answering services, the on-call vet calls you back and together you decide if an emergency visit is necessary. They then meet you at the regular office and you at least see a vet in the practice you and your pet normally go to, if not your regular vet.
